Hm, it seems that you already have some supporters who may become active players again. Too bad that I don't know Desert Storm. I liked MG and that Counter-Strike-zone though.

 

MERC Ground Warfare is back without any preceding poll. So why not start DS again - you can try . . . and then I finally have opportunity to check it out.

 

 

 

By the way, how did DS die anyways? Are there any tangible criteria that can explain the decline in population?

So it all happened not after a slow death, but just suddenly during a vivid state of that zone?

 

Then I can only assume that a revival should be rather successful. (At least more successful than T3G's or MERC's revival.)

Freakmonger took over SSCC's server bills and all quite a while ago. 2yrs? maybe bit longer. So he ran SSCC for quite some time. All the zones on it were empty for quite some time, with DS & MG having the only real recent pop bursts but that died off pretty quick sadly.

 

Desert Storm was pretty much dead when it shutdown. It had made a short comeback, but died due to most all the staff not having the time to devote to it. Really it was just a short burst of population, didn't hold for long. On top of that, they announced the closure of DS 10days before SSCC shutdown, so that wasn't the full blame.

Just restart it. People will come if they want to play and you advertise it right and its a good zone. They wont if none of that happens. End of story.

FYI we didn't lose DS, we decided that neiter of us had the time to carry it on so when SSCC went down we released the files.

If you feel like you have the time to devote to the zone, then go for it. It was a fun place, and it's had population in the past - there's no reason why it will not get population again. The only reason (in my opinion) the zone ever dwindled was due to staff not having enough time, it only takes one person to address that issue. If you need hosting it is readily available by either myself of L.C., who would happily get you on your feet. Either way, it's a no-lose scenario. Apparently nobody is bothered about it coming back online, therefore, you can give it your best shot. Best of luck to ya =)

I just found out about this today, when General told me about it. (After DS died I stopped reading the forums, and indeed, it seems its removal left me with 0 posts.) I've got the last map before Vili changed to flagging, and one I made up that was based on my memories of the old map with the wrong tileset, if those help. Right after it died a couple of us grumbled privatly about trying to rehost DS but none of us (Myself, 2pac, LtNirvana, and maybe 1 or 2 other old vets) had a server and i'm pretty sure all the others moved on.

 

I don't have lvz or settings though, and nobody ever did seem to remember how that setspawn business worked. However, I would definently like to help out if DS would come back, it was my first zone and all. A couple people mentioned advertising though, and that will probably be rather important because as far as I know almost every old vet from DS has moved on by now, there's hardly enough left I know of to even make a 4v4 in pub.
