★ Purge Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 If you do, don't expect anything different.
Sass Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Why restart DS? What will be different than what it was - which is really kinda boring and no one plays. Updated! Omega Fire 2014 The Last Burning Flame in Subspace www.omega-fire.co
Dr Brain Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Yes, if you use HSCore and put items in. Otherwise, why bother? Freedom is the right to be wrong.
★ Maverick Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 I voted in favour of restarting Desert Storm just for the sake of keeping (old) zones online; I believe that we should keep zones online to show off the different kind of zones the game had / has. Dr Brain Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 A web page with screen shots of zones would be far more effective for that purpose. EDIT: I think that more zones are great, but restarting a zone that failed without any changes is doomed to fail again. Freedom is the right to be wrong.

Killerbot Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 (edited) Ofcourse there's a chance that it won't work and that we're reopening a zone which won't attract any players. But.. I voted in favour of restarting Desert Storm just for the sake of keeping (old) zones online; I believe that we should keep zones online to show off the different kind of zones the game had / has. That's the reason why we want to reopen it. We're planning on using the gamestyle and settings we used in 2007 with which we used to hit 40+ on avg every night. dont bother if you arent using ASSSmaybe items with hscoreI'm not familiar with as3, but that's a possibily to look into. I'm sure we can figure this out. EDIT: I think that more zones are great, but restarting a zone that failed without any changes is doomed to fail again. We had a steady population till like 2 years ago, when we changed maps several times. No_Remorse Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 I have never played in DS before, but the more zones the more options newcomers have to choose between. Good luck and I'm sure you'll do fine. Women are like Elephants. I like to watch them, but I wouldn't want to own one.
spidernl Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 (edited) Agree with switching to asss. There's no disadvantages to it that I know of.The RPG aspect of HSCore might also 'encourage' some players to stay, for a change. Cancer+ Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 I like it. I used to like playing in DS. Bring it back. Make it better than ever. http://card.mygamercard.net/gelsig/black/cancer2687.png
★ SD>Big Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 using hscore and a shop sounds good in theory, but some zones thrive on simplicity no? just get in a ship and fire. i find DS fits that role.

Somebody give this guy a medal. I've always been a fan of the simplicity and skill-based gameplay that Subspace offers - I doubt that I am the only one. Women are like Elephants. Resol Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 I voted in favour of restarting Desert Storm just for the sake of keeping (old) zones online; I believe that we should keep zones online to show off the different kind of zones the game had / has. I honestly think that there are too many zones in the list, and not that any new players are coming... but it makes it hard to find the good ones. I think a great idea is to have an Archived Zone Server. A former player, I think it was blackjayde had attempted to do something similar. Perhaps have a few zones on a server, in which are broke up into categories. For instance, Turf, Flagging, CTF, Powerball, Infantry, ect ect.. The public map could be something simple, where you just fly to an arena and get sent to that arena to which zone name you selected, maybe have a description of the zone with the name. Then when players are in a certain zone, send server wide announcements stating which zone is being played. I don't know.. I just feel like bringing all the population together is a good idea, every zone is better when you got lots of people to blow up! Also, I agree that HSCore is just too complicated, yeah it has a lot of great features an all, but 90% of players don't want to "learn" everything you can do, they like to fly around and kill people. Another issue with HSCore, you have to edit entirely way too much to even get it to compile.

If someone retires a zone to take it offline and such, they ought to at least release the files. No harm in doing that. valate Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 I vote restart. Big fan of DS and always will be, kinda of a soft spot for me :/. If you get active staff members, I'd like to see DS just coast even if there is not a lot of people playing it haha. pixelsoft Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 bring back mg if anythingThat actually sounds more useful. Didn't MG have a population way higher than Desert Storm's? If we want to follow a policy of increasing the SS population in total then MG would be the better choice, perhaps. Join ?chat=subspace
Killerbot Posted December 30, 2010 Author Report Posted December 30, 2010 MGs population used to be higher yes. But I'm not familiar with MG and I don't have the files. besides that, I like DS better personally:D Retired
spidernl Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 DS' population will probably (and hopefully) be higher with revamped gameplay, so that makes the whole 'MG argument' rather pointless. http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk74/lera_ss/Signatures/Spider1.jpg
★ Dav Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 I say yes but... I think bringing it back as a flagging zone is not the way to go, but turning it back into a turf PB zone is. IMHO the turf gameplay and rank system were the best tings about the zone in the past. ASSS opens up a lot of possibilities to develop that theme and really update the classic DS. I don't like the idea of buying your items in a shop, HS has that done already, but having "ships" available with rank as before, perhaps having items added with rank as well would be nice. You could also make items available as rank goes up and allow a player to equip/swap items they have available as they play in the spawns or at bases. Something I would have liked to do was to make balling and capturing spawns/bases worth something. Perhaps a goal gives you a temp boos like super of shields, and controlling a base/spawn allows you to have access to new items such as thors. Just my 2 cents, thought about this quite a bit before real life killed any hope of CRe and I implementing anything. SSCC Desert Storm OwnerSSforum Admin

Just my 2 cents, thought about this quite a bit before real life killed any hope of CRe and I implementing anything. I personally think a light-weight implementation of HS' item system would fit in fine. The 'get money and upgrade' element does help get people to stay, which helps in sustaining population when (if?) you get it. DS was fine with turf before, flagging I never really liked there.A more intuitive spawn system (maybe a 'selection screen' on death, where you get a quick view of the map showing which parts your team controls and such) would also be neat. The whole !setspawn blahblah where you had to pretty much know the 'locations', as numbers iirc, by heart, wasn't exactly ideal. That said, the whole turf gameplay system could be expanded where you control parts of the map and slowly advance to the other team's base, and possibly then win the round or do something else neat. I don't know, just throwing out ideas. http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk74/lera_ss/Signatures/Spider1.jpg
