»Maverick Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) With great pride I would like to announce the release of the new and improved Subspace/Continuum Population Statistics Formerly known as Trench Wars's population statistics, it's now been rebuild from scratch, powered by RRDTool and Cacti to support the population statistics gathering and storage. For example, Trench Wars's population for the last week;http://stats.sshq.net/graphs/graph_6_2.png(updated automatically every 5 minutes, click for more graphs and details) Apart from zone population statistics, gathering statistics from Directory Servers is also implemented using my PHP Directory Client. You can view the tracked directory servers on this page.Population of the SSC(E, U, X) zones are compared in two graphs which can be found under the menu item 'Zones'. Requests, questions, comments? Don't hesitate and send a message on the Contact page! (or in this topic ofcourse) Cheers,Maverick Edited December 19, 2010 by Maverick Quote
No_Remorse Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 Nice! Now I can confirm how unpopular my zone really is! Quote
Dr Brain Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 Someone give Mav a medal. Great job! Quote
PoLiX Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 Granted it as been 4yrs since I told you I'd re-add you as admin once you got the pop graphs up and running again, still interested? haha. But on a serious note, gj, looking good. Well worth the wait. Quote
L.C. Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) The website is very amazing and awesome Maverick! =D Thank you. EDIT: Any plans to import the old data so that we can see any trends in the past 10 years? Edited December 19, 2010 by L.C. Quote
»Lynx Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 Kudos to you sir, excellent job. Quote
Cheese Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 god has it really been 4 years already? Quote
Kilo Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 Now we can see how many bots are connected every 5 minutes. Quote
»Maverick Posted December 20, 2010 Author Report Posted December 20, 2010 Granted it as been 4yrs since I told you I'd re-add you as admin once you got the pop graphs up and running again, still interested? haha.haha no thanks. I don't have the time anymore :-) EDIT: Any plans to import the old data so that we can see any trends in the past 10 years? I think I lost the old data when my harddisk broke last year. I'll see if it's still around in TW's database and I might just be able to import it (although it won't be easy). Quote
pixelsoft Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Wow, TW doesn't even reach 300 anymore. Quote
Dav Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 yep all change over the past few years. That said pop seems pretty stable atm so lets hope some of the new zones can help pull it up again Quote
Cheese Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 why doesnt popstats track non ssc/bt zones? Quote
»Maverick Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 (edited) The initiation of tracking a zone is a manual action (also the discontinuation of tracking a zone). I've decided to not track any non-SSC zones as they are to unreliable to track properly with the current Cacti architecture (also I doubt population statistics would be of any use to temporary zones). The only exception I've made are the BlueT zones as those are well organized in being easily identifyable in the zones list, thus making it easier to notice changes when a zone is added or removed. I'm noticing now that SSA has quite some zones now and can be added aswell. Nonetheless, if you would like to see a zone to be tracked, you can always send a request at the contact page. Samapico Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Isn't there a way to link the directory servers data with that, somehow? If a zone stops appearing on a directory server for X time, stop tracking itIt probably isn't simple, but it would be nice Quote
»Maverick Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 I've tried to do that using Cacti but Cacti doesn't support it 100% and in the end it won't work. Ofcourse it would be possible to achieve it by coding everything yourself (and not use Cacti as a tool for RRD anymore) but that will require quite some work. I might look into it some time but I'm already happy in how it works now Quote
»Maverick Posted November 4, 2011 Author Report Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) I've added support for our main directory server, sscentral.sscuservers.net ! Also some old offline directory servers were removed. We currently have 5 directory servers up and running (1 of them being quite unreliable though). If you want to help someone use these directory servers in the client, please use http://directoryservers.sshq.net/ . Edited November 4, 2011 by Maverick Quote
»Maverick Posted November 8, 2011 Author Report Posted November 8, 2011 Sigh seems like zones are faking their population because of inter-zone-switch arenas. Lets hope the fake population can be fixed while keeping the functionality :/ Quote
spidernl Posted November 8, 2011 Report Posted November 8, 2011 Isn't half the population if not more of zones like EG and TW bots anyways? It's not like their population figures are 'realistic' ignoring those inter-zone arenas. Quote
PoLiX Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I counted the bots in all the public arenas of the zones before. I can't seem to find the doc, it wasn't half the pop, but quite surprisingly still a lot of bots. The worst percentage (of zones with active pop) going to EG, followed by TW, and then Chaos. Since then I know Chaos has reduced the number of bots it keeps loaded (wheter liked it or not), and TW reduced some of its. Dunno about EG, as it actually looks like more arenas are open now. Quote
Cheese Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 tw has about 20 bots, and eg had about 50-60 bots last time i lookedhalf the eg bots were just sitting in 1 event subarena just to boost population Quote
