Samapico Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 OOOOH... I was wondering why my RAM score dropped to 5.9 at some point. I learned about the winsat command line, and one of its options is to create a xml file of the analysis.so I did: winsat mem -log -xml "D:\winsat.xml" (I don't think the -log did anything, but whatever) And look what I found in this xml file:[...] - 5.9 - - 4227858432 [...] Bleh... I do have 4GB of RAM, but because of the 3 to 4 GB area being used by the video card and a bunch of stuff, I get less than that of available memory Oh, and I just ordered this beast. For the price (40$ off, and another 20$ of mail-in rebate), it looked like a great deal to me. Quote
L.C. Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 I'm still waiting for DDR2-1200 deals.. Quote
Dr Brain Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Last time I checked (6 months ago, before I bought my new comp) DDR2 was a good deal more expensive than DDR3. Quote
»SD>Big Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 since sama posted that video card i started looking into getting parts, it's been a while since i checked memory prices... $80 (CAD, that is) for 2 x 4gb ddr3 modules @1333 or $130 @1600 with fancy heatsinks, is pretty damn cheap! Quote
»SD>Big Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 damn you sama!!!! now i just bought a whole bunch of parts to build a new pc... i've ordered a processor, mobo, ram, psu... all i need now is to decide on gfx card Quote

»Blocks Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Okay, for real now, here's the post I made on my computer a while back. The only difference is that I've swapped out the processor for an AMD Phenom II X6 1055T that I got on some amazing deal. I've also downgraded to two monitors. Just built it a few days ago. This is huge for me, because up until now I've been using an old AMD Athlon 64 4000+ laptop that ran at 70 degC constant. First time I built a completely new computer without using any old parts, so I had to share. Case:Rosewill R101-P-BK mATX Computer Case with 120mm Fan Power Supply:Corsair CMPSP-400CX 400W ATX12V V2.2 80 Plus Certified Motherboard:Gigabyte GA-MA785GPMT-UD2H Socket AM3 / AMD 785G mATX Motherboard Processor:AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Callisto 3.1GHz 6 MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 80W Dual Core (unlocked to quad core) Cooling:OCZ Vendetta Aluminum & Copper Intel/AMD CPU Cooler Memory:OCZ OCZ3P1333LV4GK 4GB PC3-10666 (DDR3-1333) CA7 Dual Channel Memory Hard Drive:Seagate ST3500418AS Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA II 7200 RPM 16MB Buffer Optical Drive:Samsung SH-S223L 22x SATA DVD Burner Drive Black Graphics Card:MSI R4350-MD512H 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card Total cost shipped was $399.19 after tax, cashback, and rebates. It's pretty zippy by my standards. I'm running triple 21.5" 1080p monitors on it. Quote

Dr Brain Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Only thing I'd mention about that setup is that you've got it setup for dual channel memory instead of triple channel. Quote
»SD>Big Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) i wasn't able to find a single motherboard on newegg that supported triple channel and had an lga1155 socket and 2 pci-e's. not one!! edit - and it had to also support a 1600 memory frequency Edited January 18, 2011 by SD>Big Quote

cxc Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 My computer is a new egg refurbished laptop, Dell Latitude D620. Only computer i ever spent money on was my first one, an almost $2000 dollar pentum 75 with a massive 1 gig harddrive (that had to be partitioned to read) ~ 1994 ish. I forget how much memory it had but it was phat, think was 4 mega bytes or somthing. after that every computer i ever aquired was either free or < $300 I do not own a desktop. Quote
