The state patrol launched a plane equipped with a heat-seeking camera to look for stranded motorists from Seattle south to Olympia.

 

"Our aircraft can cover large areas much faster than ground based troopers," Sgt. Jim Nobach of the patrol's aviation section said. "We can also check those sections of road that troopers can't get to because of downed trees or power lines."

 

Took my dad 12hrs to do a normal 1hr commute, and me 4hrs to do a normal 10-15min commute. Our roads just ain't setup for this stuff.

 

And as typing this, the Navy just canceled the next 2 shifts where I work. Canceled my shift 4am this morning. Fun stuff... Just got power back, my family has no power still, but got a generator.

Lol, as a Canadian this is like an average day.

 

Of course, we just do the regular speed limits in white-out conditions too.

For us, this is a once in 50 year thing. I have never seen anything like last night in my life. 65mph gusts, clear sky, subzero temps. Not even close to a normal winter for us. If this was normal, sure, we'd be fine. But we have lots of Californians up here who can't even handle the normal winter with 1-2in of snow. Throw in stuff people like me have never seen in a lifetime living here, and you got chaos.
