Google Transcriber

A month ago I submitted an idea on Google's help forum:

Yes, I know YouTube has built-in transcription.

Yes, I know Google Voice has one too.

 

But you know what, that's really inconvenient and impractical when I want to convert (1) my Professor's lecture, or (2) a debate conference, or (3) an interview for a serious research assignment, (4) a sermon from church, or (5) a analog-to-digital converted phone call recording to written text.

 

It wouldn't be overly complicated by any means. Said Google user would simply be able to upload an audio clip, wait for its transcription to be completed, and then view the transcription for the audio file they just uploaded (Google would probably not need to store the audio clip after it has finished transcribing).

To me, it would make sense that Google should take up this opportunity to do it. They already have the backend for it; all that is needed is a frontend and a few tweaks.

 

I found a transcription service (of many) that will transcribe audio at a rate of $1.25 per minute of audio. A lot of companies and places use transcription services to get things in written form. Over the past month I have found so many things that I would want in a written form.

 

I am going to assume though that not many people here have any need for a service like this.

That would make for a killer lyric producing application, but Google Voice failed pretty hard when transcribing my voicemail from a chick with a hard Italian accent.
