I think energy scanner should be an addon. Using energy scanner allows you to have a huge advantage over not having it. You can vulch, you can know when to run away, you can guage to see if you're in danger from an approching opponent, and you can predict when to fire your jav bomb etc.

 

That being said, we all know that using energy scanner while basing is quit pointless. So the real issue at steak is, why the hell is Energy Scanner an Emitter when it's so useful and there is nothing even close to an alternative to it's slot as an emitter for a centering ship? Oh maybe x-radar and inertial damper would be WAY more useful on my warbird than energy scanner and damperhttp://forums.ssgn.net/public/style_emoticons/default/mega_shok.gif

 

So by making energy scanner an addon, you have to choose if you really want to use it or not. If you don't use it you get more focus towards ship power, and if you do it comes at a cost.

 

 

 

 

Alternatively, I think the zone would do a LOT better without that stupid item in the first place. Or make it a 1mil item. Or make the readings that come from it inaccurate, and a 2mil clone of it be an accurate version.

Energy Scanner is still the most overrated item in the zone, I see. I guess giving the masses an item like that prevented them from ever learning how to track energy themselves.

I think if you're annoyed at a non-choice regarding Energy Scanner though, the solution is more emitters, not changing the classification. Otherwise there's even fewer choices for emitters and that is not the way to go.

I agree that creating more emitters that could provide benefits similar to power strip, shell, and maneuvering fins would be great! And yes although gaging energy without energy scanner isn't difficult there is still a big difference of having it and not. It also requires a little more skill to go about without the scanner... ultimately making the zone a little less nooby.

I don't use enrgy scanner because it frees up one of my emitter slots and like Kilo said, it's not that hard to gauge the enemies energy level. You can spectate a player to find out what his recharge and energy is like.

Not that I disagree with your statement, but the suggestion about spectating is ridiculously impractical :/

I will agree this tactic is less practical when you are just flying around center trying to kill anything randomly, but it's not so impractical when your hunting a player in center who has been owning you. When you spectate a player, you get to see their max energy, observe what kind of damage they take when hit by a particular weapon, observe their recharge rate, and see what items they have. If a player is on a spree in center and you are having trouble killing him, spectating him is not such a bad idea. All of the information displayed about the player you are spectating pretty much gives their build away. After a short observation you can come up with an "attack solution" that increases your odds of killing the player.

Proves how bad you are at this game. How can you accurately keep track of energy without knowing your enemies armor and other ship sets? And in upper-tier dueling, 10 energy is enough to make a huge difference and is impossible to keep track of through estimation. Energy scanner is one of the most OP items in the game.

Doing something you are apparently incapable of doing proves how bad I am at this game. I know it's tough to comprehend for someone who doesn't have a feel for the game but otherwise it doesn't take long to realize the kind of armor you're going against just based on how the enemy reacts to 1) being shot at 2) being hit. But hey, it's fine if you need to use an emitter slot to dumb it down, it's just not something a skilled player needs to succeed. It would help skilled players a tiny amount of course--I am not going to get into how skilled or not you are, of course. Keep the schoolyard jabs off a productive thread.

Maybe if you played you would understand. You want to be able to read movements to predict armor? That sounds so extremely pro and all, but put it into practice and you will lose. At this point, for centering ships, there is no emitter more important than energy scanner. What would you need to center? Inertial, or combat sensors. Both are useful in far less circumstances than energy scanner is.

I do agree that it should be moved to addon.

On topic im especially with Omni, I can't believe I didn't say it myself, but it's very true that energy scanner provides a lot of unique information, such as 1 bullet differences, and incalculable things like armor, max energy, or recharge.

 

And vetta, what the hell. Your getting way to carried away with this game. Since when did we start basing zone things off of 'Sci-Fi' stuff? Either way, an energy scanner could just as easily be an addon as an emitter, as emitter implies something is being emitted from the ship, and all energy scanned does is tell you something. Like stoop to your level for a second; Imagine if energy scanner was a little computer that evaluated the opponents ship build and condition, and calculated an energy value for that, then displayed it on the pilots screen. How the heck is that an emitter?

[sci-fi]Tachyon sensors are indeed emitters, because they emit tachyons (duh) which are reflected back at your ship, which allows you to detect enemy ships equipped with a cloaking device. Kind of like a R.A.D.A.R..

The energy scanner emits sub-atomic particles that react to other ships' reactor energy level. By reading the charge of these particles, you can accurately determine the remaining energy of a ship.[/sci-fi]
