L.C. Posted October 24, 2010 Report Posted October 24, 2010 (edited) http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1556114&page=2#41Posts #41 to #49 hit it home for me. That's why I had to post this thread. I have to admit that my dad, being over 50 years old and having provided Windows 7 Professional on a laptop to him only about a month ago, is really liking Windows 7 over XP a lot. Although, I will show him those 9 posts on HF and ask him for his opinion, and post here. I'm really curious to know what he thinks.. You guys? Edited October 24, 2010 by L.C. Quote
Dav Posted October 24, 2010 Report Posted October 24, 2010 Now that I am used to it I am a big fan of win 7. Its very stable and works flawlessly for the things i do. For old software there is WinXP mode, which I discovered works well recently. Quote
Dr Brain Posted October 24, 2010 Report Posted October 24, 2010 There is no debate. Windows XP has nothing going for it, except familiarity. And if that were the only thing keeping you on an OS, you'd still be using DOS or Win95 NOT XP. To reiterate, there is no debate. Quote
Samapico Posted October 24, 2010 Report Posted October 24, 2010 ^^ There's no way I'm ever going back to XP now... as for compatibility issues (which are rare), it's easy to setup a virtualpc XP machine. The only thing I used it for is VB6. Quote
Yupa Posted October 24, 2010 Report Posted October 24, 2010 7 is tolerable (compared to other versions of Windows) once you install Classic Shell, disable Aero and do a few other things. It's no Unix DE, though, and the price is certainly wrong. Quote
Dr Brain Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 Wait... you complain that it's not as good as a Linux window manager, then recommend software to remove all its new Linux-like features? How does that make sense? I'm no MS fanboy (I used gentoo w/ KDE as my primary desktop for more than a year), but you have to give them credit when they've actually improved something. Quote
»gallitin Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 (edited) I prefer Windows 7 to XP. Windows 7 on laptop computer, but for now they don't support 64 bit Windows 7 on some multiple processors machines from what I read so desktop on XP for a while longer. »gallitin Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 No it's on 32 bit XP right now. I want to move to 64 bit Windows 7 so rest of my ram can be utilized, but kept getting installation errors. I then read that the Dell T5400 isn't compatible with Windows 7 64 bit as of now. Quote
mineRBot89 Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 My laptop was barely compatible with Windows Vista... I got a copy of 7 from my friend, but I haven't wanted to install it because im afraid of how bad it's going to run on here. Quote
Samapico Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Windows 7 will run better than Vista. A lot Quote
»Lynx Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 I have to admit, Windows 7 is a lot better than XP for me, and it's A LOT better than Vista. It's nearly as productive as OS X, but not quite there yet. Quote
»Purge Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Pretty much the only reason I'm using XP is because the computer runs sluggish on Vista (though it came pre-installed, satisfies bare minimum requirements), whereas it blazes on XP. Quote
»SD>Big Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 xp was great. vista was absolutely terrible, i uninstalled it after a week. windows 7 is awesome, no need to switch back to xp. Quote
Kilo Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 I like XP because all of the terrible programs written by terrible programmers who rely on administrator access to have the program work correctly still work correctly. Down with security! Quote
Dr Brain Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 That's why Win7 is great, because many of those terrible programs that were broken in Vista now work again! Quote
