it has recently come to my attention that the way bomb shrapnel is calculated has changed again, and this time has become obscure.

the old system was easy, it was just that bomb X had x shrap, and you could buy booster/multiplier for shraprate, making it shrap x shraprate = total shrap

however, it seems that now there is no shraprate, and that bombs still have x shrap, but now each ship now has a hidden number and its now shrap x hidden number = total shrap.

which means that the shrap stat in your bomb is now as useless as the -damage numbers in an armor, and that you wont know how many shrap you have until you buy the bomb.

what i propose:

expand the ?shipinfo command, so that it details base bomb/bullet/burst damage, bomb/bullet damageup, and shrapnels per prize

if this happens, then we can say, i have x armor, so i will take x damage from a lv2 bullet

we would also be able to say, i have x bomb, so i have x number of shrap

you're mistaken, nothing about the game play settings in a very long time. especially not the shrapnel system.. i don't know what you think you are talking about but shraprate was always a hidden number and it's still used (seeing as we still use continuum.) come back to reality where nothing's different

the default is to not show ship settings. you should provide a reason for why it should be changed further away from that direction.

shraprate used to be a universal stat, and is now per ship, are you trying to contest this fact?

why allow people to see actual bullet damage?

because i am sure most people would actually like to know how much damage they take when they get hit by a bullet

Yes, it has *never* been universal. Not even when we used the AreaBots. Sorry to shatter your world view.

Bullet damage is hardly a secret (or any other damage setting). It's in a half dozen forum posts, and I always answer when asked in-game. It's just more work than I want to do to code a command.

lol @ me forgetting the word "changed" in my above post

shrapnel rate is not a global setting

load up subgame and see for yourself

i could be mistaken but the individual ship shrap rates haven't changed either since this set went in a few years back, but in any case they certainly haven't changed recently.

most people can tell how much damage they take when they get hit..energy display and all
