PoLiX Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 So as I've watched the pop dwindle over the past few months, I have noticed a trend. More and more bots in zones filling the "void". EG for instance in public arenas right now has 45+ bots. 25 or so in just 1 arena. Usually they just had 27 in their meteor arena, plus a few others. The zone pop being at 140 that means in reality there is only 90ish players. 60 or so being accountable, that leaves 30 or so in privs + bots in privs. Granted it isn't only EG. But just the one I have noticed doing it a lot lately with having so many bots in 1 arena that I have never seen hosted any of the various times I am in there. Have we really come to this? Quote
Samapico Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 45 bots?!?!?! AI bots? cant think of a reason you'd need 25 bots in an arena.... Quote
Chambahs Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 Last time i asked why there were so many bots in EG, i was told to shut the fuck up. Quote
Samapico Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 That meteor thing looks fun... waste of bandwidth to have these 20 bots spam stuff all the time though Quote
Audry Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 Well there is a maze arena (i dont remember which one) where there is a bunch of bot shooting at you trying to keep you from doing it. So not all of them are useless... but maybe some Quote
Disturbance Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 Yeah, even I am finding it difficult to log in to Subspace these days. Still installed though. Minecraft isn't helping. Quote
Dr Brain Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 All that says is that EG is dying. HS has been doing very well lately. Quote
Hakaku Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 It pisses me off too, especially when zones which have never had population and likely will never have any, such as Jackpot SVS, Command & Conquer, Star Warzone, all try to boost their player count by filling the zones with bots. When it comes to major zones having nearly 50 bots sitting around, that's just sad. Quote

Which are merely there because C&C has SSC, hyperspace crashes to much and I can relax the flood filters. One of them is a SSC Chat game, the other is a relay bot between subspace ?chat and an irc server. All the others I do not even know why they are there (they are chatnet). When it comes to major zones having nearly 50 bots sitting around, that's just sad.And I have to disagree with you about Jackpot SVS. That's my hobby zone, it isn't SSC (nobody is mandating you to require its presence in the zone list by default), nobody can regulate non-SSC zones (ahh the freedom of having server tools available), and more important, all of you are forgetting that it's not population that makes a game a dead or alive game. There is way too much focus on what zones have population and which don't, and yall' forgetting what this game is really about. My two cents. -_- Anyway, that's not changing for Jackpot SVS, and if there was an addon for Subgame2 where I could add my bot's names to a TXT file and make Subgame2 not count those users into the pop, then I would do exactly just that. The zone is a museum/archive zone for anyone to play in it. I'm not around 24/7 to know when people want bots to get the full nostalgic experience I can possible offer for the current states of the zone. >.< D: EDIT: hehehe >:] Edited September 16, 2010 by L.C. Samapico Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 I heard Continuum will go pay2play Quote
»Xog Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 yeah me too. apparently priitk has been waiting for the population to die out so he can start throwing some actual advertisements around and making updates and eventually going to pay2play. Quote

We have 2 bots in Starwarzone...and that's only b/c powerbot requires that one lives in a private arena.'Never' was probably not the best choice of words, but face it, Star Warzone, along with SVS Jackpot for that matter, hasn't had any population since it was ever revived years ago. It's been sitting around, dare I say, neglected. And hence my disagreement with the practice of leaving so many bots in a virtually unmaintained zone. And no, it wasn't before my time, but nice try. I was actually a regular long ago under a much different alias than I use today. And I have to disagree with you about Jackpot SVS. That's my hobby zone, it isn't SSC (nobody is mandating you to require its presence in the zone list by default), nobody can regulate non-SSC zones (ahh the freedom of having server tools available), and more important, all of you are forgetting that it's not population that makes a game a dead or alive game. There is way too much focus on what zones have population and which don't, and yall' forgetting what this game is really about.Whether it's on the SSC server or not means very little to me. It's great that the zone is a hobby of yours, but there's really no reason in having 5 bots sitting in there 24/7. And while to you reporting accurate numbers may not be important, it is to others. If we eliminate the number of bots present in all zones, our overall population level is lower than it was in 2000 (a reference point to the oldest population records), which says a lot about the state of the game. And if the name Cosmic Rift means anything to you, that's precisely where this game is headed. So you can't say that population isn't important. It's been quite a few years that the population level has been steadily declining; it's time for people to stop brushing it off as if nothing were. Quote
Cheese Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 players are leaving.what this means: less playersless players -> people that play now less likely to play obvious solution:replace player with bot however this only applies to bots that actually leave ship 9 and yes, i am actually contemplating a zone completely filled with ai bots Quote
L.C. Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 A zone called.. RAMBINATORRR. You're Rambo versus 249 AI bots. Quote
Kilo Posted September 19, 2010 Report Posted September 19, 2010 HZ proud non-user of dirty-population-number-inflating tricks. 50-70+ on league nights.EG buncha idiots if they're doing that, revoke their certification. Quote
PoLiX Posted September 19, 2010 Author Report Posted September 19, 2010 the bots moved to a different arena and there was 31 of em loaded, but now they're magically gone. They are AI bots for events, but they have just been loaded and left for a while now. Maybe a few months. I know I mentioned something about it to Mom one night when ss pop was barely over 400, and eg was mostly just those bots. Think that was back in July? Or like the one time TW's bots were down and the pop was barely over 100. I mean there is a 50-50 cause of so many automated sub arenas people couldn't play so they didn't get on, but really. I'd say its safe to say atleast 1/4 of SS's pop at any given time now is bots. Quote
