1) Can a module be designed (and still have the server be stable) that checks a player's position and predicts where he's going to be in .30 seconds based on velocity & direction, and keep doing this consecutively for extended periods of time (like hours)?

2) Can a module be designed (and still have the server be stable) that corelates two players and can pinpoint AND place a graphic next to a player from one person's perspective every .30 seconds?

 

Much like the Subspace Badge (you know, that subspace forums logo at the top of this page), I think it would be cool to have an image that float next to players based on status (given the developmental focus of a zone) like say if one person were a pirate, there could be a skull-and-crossbones image that "follows" a player instead of a badge. (not sure if it's possible to have badges on multiple players ??)

 

heck, it would be much easier if there was a way to manipulate the ss badge system to where multiple people could have a badge at the same time, and just replace the badge with a different image..

Now that i think about it, it would be badass to have multiple images replace the badge for different events the player does.

 

Like say someone gets a 2-fer, and a 2-fer image is displayed on said player for a couple seconds..

one thing that is impossible to do is have something follow your ship on other people's screens that arent points master or KotH

its something that the client can not do

 

 

and trying to imitate it would look like crap so much that it wouldnt be worth the time you spent on it

Subspace badge animation is handled client-side... So the only way you can cheat that is prizing a player a bunch of points so it becomes the points leader and gets the badge. And you can, of course, change the animation of the badge.

Might be possible to "cheat" like that with the KOTH thing as well, but it's probably trickier.

 

You can make something appear near a player, but have it follow the player would be, as other said, choppy, ugly, and bandwidth-hungry.

Well, when two players have the same number of points, and the most points in the area, don't both of them have the MVP badge? If they do, then you can sacrifice the point meter with 1s and 0s, and keep track of real points using ?points or something.

 

EDIT: Or what Sama said. Use KOTH.

If you didn't allow attaching in the zone, you could use a custom turret lvz with fake players to give up to 40 different images that fly with the player

It's possible to have LVZs placed on a map (mapobjects) and be able to move them around. I've seen someone do this with Mervbot, I'm sure ASSS can do that too.

 

I was once in a zone where someone was doing this, he had a picture of a car placed on top of him and it kept being on top of him when he moved around. The motion was quite fluent then what you expect. I doubt this keeps being fluent with alot of players but it's still doable.
