Does anyone talked with freakmonger? Is it for good or only temporary?

Freakmonker contacted me a couple of weeks ago telling me he planned to shut SSCC down and that I should take zone backups.

 

This is what pushed us to shut down DS in the end.

im still wondering how he made it that far on a $500 a month server for a 15 year old spaceship game that uses near zero bandwidth

Whoa.. what? That's not a realistic monthly fee unless you're paying for high-end, sub-enterprise-level dedicated servers or some heavy duty serious colocation hosting.

SSCC went down on Friday 20th august 2010 11:10 (PDT).

 

As far as I know, it used to host the following zones:

• SSCC Desert Storm (already shut down by owners before shutdown)
  [avg 5 players]
  
• SSCC Halo Evolved
  [avg 5 players]
  
• SSCC Metal Gear CTF
  [avg 11 players]
  
• SSCC RedStar
  [avg 3 players]
  
• SSCC Star Wars Empire
  [avg 0 players]
  
• SSCC The CompleX

Yes, I took donations to cover 2 months of the 72 months that I had SSCC. I kept the server up past those 2 months and I just came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth keeping the Server up due to the fact that none of the zones it was hosting averaged over 20 players:

MG *might* move to a new host. That is up to Testtube as he is the "owner" of MG and never gave ownership up. I have all the files from the Server but will not release them to anyone other than the actual owner of the requesting zone. I.E. if you were not the owner at the time the Server shutdown don't even ask for the files.

 

Sorry for the lack of communication but things in my personal life is pretty hetic right now and some things are just more important in life.
