Dav1 and I have made the choice to shutdown SSCC Desert Storm. Neither one of us

have the time to work on it due to real life.

You can download the zone files here. Feel free to do whatever you want to with them.

Such a shame, CRe.

Archived in my backups.

You should make your backups available to download somewhere so any SS files that may get lost are archived somewhere

EDIT: The zone has gone down at Tue Aug 10 2010, 14:00 PDT

Someone told me that SSC's server has a whole archive of maps and stuff. I could be wrong though.

THis is a real shame, but unfortunatly neither of us have the spare time to dev and revive the zone (Damn you real life!).

It's very hard to see the zone go, but this community doesn't need people like me hanging onto a dead zone when somone else may be able to give it the attention it needs.

If someone does take the project foward I would be happy to offer a little help and have some light involvement though. I'm not ready to quid this game completly just yet!

It's been fun over the past however many years though, sad to have to bring it to an end

....Okay way to shut down a fun zone :<

zone was dead, what it needs is someone with the time to take it from here and bring it back to what it was.

I think releasing the files will give it more chance then me and cre sitting in spec with the bots.

I'd totally do something with the files but I'm not much of a developer my self. I don't have the creativity I suppose. But I hope someone will take them under their wing and bring the zone back the the way it was before (population wise).

RIP Desert Storm

I think it has a better chance then a TW sub arena. It has always been a popular zone until devolpment stalled and staff activity dropped off.

Personally I would favor a restoration to the turf style (something I started to work on and never finished; I will dig up the files and release those as well later). We found with a good staff base the zone would pull a largeish population. Unfortunatly getting that staff base sorted with no free time is absolutley impossible.

Well, I promise that when I get fabulously rich and retire, I'll bring it back!!! But don't hold your breath xP it'll probably be like 50 years in the future if I don't die, and that's if I do actually get wealthy, which isn't all that probable.

The game of SS is nearing it's end. DS was a cool zone while it lasted. in the future all zones will be sub arenas in one conglomerate zone....so it seems.

Naw, when EG drops that's when you can say that.

Ya where is that jerk LT?

The thought of hosting it on a home server has crossed my mind but that really is a pain in the ass and I'm flat broke. And I know how it would go. I would find some dev team that would work for a solid month and we'd make some great progress, then they'd get bored and quit dev then I'd get frustrated with another incomplete project and quit. It happens every time I start a project at DS after the only successful dev project I helmed there, which was the original shift to turfspawn that brought the zone to ssc. I hate to say it but it probably is just beating a dead horse unless I could get at the helm of a large dev team that could bang out everything that would need to be done in like a month. I'd say it's probably 90% plugin coding for a mervbot that would make another turf shift possible... but unless we had a team of motivated vets... I would have trouble getting motivated myself. I think Dav and CRe would agree.

Fart.

well, if everyone wanted it enough, i would be willing to run the zone, and im sure LC would be willing to host it, and i could probably get it back on ssc easily enough, and i would even be willing to move the zone from subgame to asss

only if everyone wanted it enough though

I would want it just because I was with DS for nearly a decade and hate to see it go. For the reason alone I would be willing to help facilitate getting it back online. While I don't see the point in moving to ASSS without a team of people willing to put a large amount of work towards dev, I wouldn't fight it. If there were to be a project to bring the zone back I would probably only come on board if we made the move back to turfspawn (which would involved either coding new plugins for merv since the ones we have are incomplete/missing... or coding new asss modules). The graphics are all done and we have maps and I would be willing to work on the turfspawn map revamp I had started (a mashup of the best parts of the old turfspawn maps with fewer spawn points).

I still have all my old dev files... and like 90% of the files from the zones history including most of the files from SSZ. The things that seemed to go missing were plugins and settings files when the dutch decided to go out of their way to destroy the zone. If a project were to spring up I would reccomend dev'ing to completion before the zone is even brought back online.

Of course none of this will probably happen but ya never know.

Well, I'm willing to host if you're willing to roll it back out to playable shape. -_- Subgame or ASSS -- your choice. Cheese has offered to help in ASSS development, so you have yourself a winner in that sect.

As I said before i would be willing to contribute a very small amount here and there towards it; however due to time constraints I would take a very backseat role (read be mostly in spec) in any future of the zone.

The zone was pretty cool and every now and then a bunch of people would show up. I dunno guys - will it ever be what it was? I'm hoping so but probably not - every zone is dying dying dying.

Lt - you owe me $40 ... I was your dev team that you took credit for yet never paid.... http://forums.ssgn.net/public/style_emoticons/default/search.gif
