Stabwound Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 I've tried this on both Windows 7 and Linux (Ubuntu) and I can't connect to any zones. I can see the list of zones fine, but it will not connect to anything. My goal is to have this running on a Linux VPS, I got it to run but connecting to zones is another matter. On the Windows machine I totally disabled the firewall just to see, and it still didn't work. I can connect and play using Continuum fine, but Starlight is a no go. Quote
»Lynx Posted August 6, 2010 Report Posted August 6, 2010 Snrrrubs oracle server is probably down. Quote
Stabwound Posted August 7, 2010 Author Report Posted August 7, 2010 (edited) Blah. Are there any decent chat clients that will run under Linux? Even if they require vip.txt It's a shame he went through so much trouble to make this chat client and then stopped supporting it. Edited August 7, 2010 by Stabwound Quote
L.C. Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 (Oh right, you're looking for Linux-based chat clients.) Well if you are alright with Wine, you could give SubChat a try. But then you'd need at least VIP access to the zone you want to use it in. Quote

And from what I read on MGB, it seems to be back online. It's the first time I hear about his server being down since Starlight is being used, so it's not that bad Quote
»Xog Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 isn't there web-based client dr brain made a while back ? i forget the name of it... Quote

It's the first time I hear about his server being down since Starlight is being used, so it's not that bad Well, to me it sounded like he'd just shut the server off and turned it back on because someone asked him to. Anyway, I have had Starlight running on a Linux-based VPS and it's been rock solid, which was kind of surprising because I was expecting crash bugs, etc. I have a session usage of 42 hours right now. It's actually pretty sweet on a VPS: you can just leave it running all the time and connect to your server with a VNC connection to access it whenever you want, which is exactly what I wanted to do and is perfect for an eternal idler like myself. I know not many would even want to do this, but I do. It's even better than the Continuum chat because it has timestamps, and obviously works better for this purpose than using Continuum via Wine just for the chat. Oh, and if anyone at all is in contact with Snrrrub, a Linux build of Starlight 1.3 would be highly appreciated. <:-) Quote
