I used to play Continuum a long time ago, and have recently spent a little time looking at some of the zones and I just don't get the attraction to Trenchwars?

Its probably one of the reasons that new players do not stick around,

When people imagine flying and fighting through space they imagine super-quick high octane dog fights.

Who wants to go super slow and fire one bullet every 20 minutes? (slight exaggeration I know.)

I have tried to introduce new people to this game, they see that zone and immediately get bored...

Maybe you needed to be there at the beginning to appreciate it?

Your thoughts.

Tell your friends its more realistic. Isnt that the big trend these days on games? "OMG ITS SO GOOD, ITS SO REALISTIC" Taking 42,000 bullets isnt realistic. One bomb is.

Dont get me wrong, I hate TW, just seeking out a solution. lol

To be honest, Trench Wars was the only reason I ever stuck around, so I can't really hate on it. I used to really love Death Star Battle, but at some point, I just couldn't connect anymore. TW was the only other zone that I really liked & had been exposed to, and it had quite an enticing player base. I imagine lots of newcomers simply choose to play TW for the same reason: because it seemingly has the highest population. When newcomers aren't used to the gameplay in other zones, then the speed of the ships, the amount of upgrades possible, the number of bullets and bombs and mines you can throw all barely matter. Where it gets boring is the fact that SubSpace feels like an oversized browser game of asteroids; repetitive, old, and has nothing new to offer. But maybe that's just me.

the reason people play it to begin with is because it's so simple an easy to get the hang of. the reason they keep playing it is because of events and twd. my thoughts atleast

Your completely wrong here, have you ever seen fighter jets fight? They fire hundreds a bullets at a time, and up to 4-6+ rockets, its not realistic in the slightest, and people like speed, hence the success of all the Xbox games, imagine call of duty if you walked around really slow and then shot one bullet at the enemy? Nobody would play it.

Chess > Tic-Tac-Toe

The point was that in a 2D top-view spaceshooter LIKE SUBSPACE the "realistic" you talk of does not work. IN SUBSPACE that would NOT be realistic (based on your definition once again) because of the NATURE of the game. Additionally, IN SUBSPACE, the more "super" a zone is, the less and less skill such zones of said genre require. Because of the NATURE of SVS, SVS is very comparable to the simple yet complex game of chess.

In the real world, yeah, it's fucking easy to shoot a million bullets to make one kill (so much for skill).

The only fix for this, is to make them all play Extreme Games. Fast, 1 bomb kills (most of the time), fast bullets.

TW Sucks.

Hmm. I think is it due to the big population of bot making it look very popular. So people 1st reflex is to go see the party.

And of course, one/few bullet/bomb and BOOM! Catchy for new players.

all these goofy ship settings are what owned subspace originally

and now we're at the point where all these goofy ship settings are needed to keep some small amt of players still playing

a vicious circle indeed!111

While I do agree that the slow firing and low speed can get boring, I play TW because it takes a bit more skill to conserve energy for firing while still using boost to maneuver around the bullets and bombs of others. It gets quite interesting when you're on a team that can actually work together to secure the base as well. Edited by Elvwyn
