...So since when have people's death count been randomly going up? I was working really hard on my k/d and then I noticed I was being cheated!

I just tested it out, and in oe life i managed to come near death about twice and then i got killed, and in that one life i some how mannaged 5 deaths...

It will go up if you enter safety zone, change ship, and other events like that

Wait. Pardon my french, but WTF?!? We get charged a death for CHANGING SHIPS? For entering an ammo depo safe to BUY THINGS?

 

That's BULL PUCKEY! I'm sorry, but not every ship is going to work for every situation, and I shouldn't be penalized because I needed to use my WB to collect flags from unfriendlies in center, and I now need to switch to my spider or weasel to DEFEND those flags. That's just RIDICULOUS.

 

I just lost a goodly amount of my desire to ever flag again, or even to play.

you also get +1 death when you get hit by nme weapon, and your energy goes from yellow to red, and you see a red poof

If you're flagging and not dying a lot you're doing it wrong...

 

I'm fine with dying if I'm actually dying - I do rush 75% of the time in flag games when I'm on offense, and the time I'm NOT rushing is usually spent either trying to angle for a thor attack (rare) or providing cover fire for the lanc from an enemy rush. I'm even one of the few who rushes on defense, although admittedly not well and not unless necessary, and I'm fine with dying doing that. I'm even fine dying as a meatshield to protect flaggers or lancs. I'm not fine with being charged a death for not actually dying. I'm sorry but I like to have my actual performance reflected in my stats.

Exactly right. That's why the feature is there.

The zone isn't fair. Deal with it and use it to your advantage rather than whining. After making this post I suddenly went from being all super into my Kill:Death ratio to completely not giving a shit and trolling around, honestly... it feels great.

And it feels like are copping out a bit by calling it a feature. Please, if you're going to claim giving people a death for almost dying (which, for the record, isn't actually dying!) is a feature just to prevent having to spend time fixing some bugs such as these.. What's next, calling HS' crashes a feature too?

Also, I think you're forgetting that this system bugs out half the time. I've played in center in the early hours (at least for you guys abroad) in just one ship against a group of "newbies" without dying, and I even stayed in one ship, didn't go into safe (I rarely do that unless I have to type or something anyway) nor did I use or buy any items, and I still ended up with about 10 deaths for playing 15 minutes without dying. Sweet system.

We wrote a module for it, and put it in intentionally. No matter how you spin it, that means it's a feature and not a bug.
