op2rules Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 http://blogs.skype.com/en/2010/06/free_calls_for_a_month.html Your welcome. BTW you need a cc to get the free 1 month but I guarantee you it's 100% free I tried it. They bill you like 1$ and then refund it right after. Quote

Samapico Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 How the hell isn't Canada included? >=( South Korea, Serbia, Nigeria.... and not Canada? Quote
»Purge Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 India and Sri Lanka aren't on there, either. Quote
PoLiX Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 If you read it, it is in celebration of the world cup. Those are all the countries who went to the world cup. Quote
Sketter Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 (edited) Canada is not included because the CRTC won't allow them to operate (allow them access Canadian area codes) according to Canadian law, their Canadian office needs to be 80% Canadian. In other words, if there were was a board of directors 8 out of 10 would need to be Canadian. (no I'm not clear on the details but something like that) A good example is when Wind Mobile wanted to operate in Canada, CRTC said no, then Wind went to the federal government to get special permission. Canada has very sensitive telecommunication laws. Canadian radio broadcasters need to play i think 40% Canadian music or get fined or shutdown. To their defense, they want to keep Canadian sovereignty, so that's why their doing that. Edited July 6, 2010 by Sketter Quote
Samapico Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 You can call people using Skype from Canada, but you can't get a Skype phone number (i.e. someone with a landline calls you on your computer). This deal seems to apply to make calls, so yes technically it could work with Canada, what you describe is not the issue here Quote
PoLiX Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Yeah. Thanks for the info Sketter, but it was a lot simpler than that in this case, hah. Quote
