kid Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 I am really starting to get tired of this zone. You nerf items without telling anyone, you have rules that cater to three year old hyperconservative children, and you're wildly inconsistent. I'd be ok with the garbage that goes on in zone if you were at least honest about it. FordPrefect was banned for two days for "disrupting flag game." He turreted with flags twice in a 5V5 flag game. Apparently that warrants a two day ban now. It would be really neat if the rules weren't written by third graders. Please note, the current rules are nonnegotiable. That is to say, any replies to this post that is just a way to attack the rules will be deleted. This topic is an open discussion on what the public thinks should be added, I'm sure some of you have some good ideas that will make people enjoy the zone more. 1. No swearing or racism at any time.2. No spamming.3. No VIE/unauthorized chatnet clients or bots.4. No advertising other zones.5. No intentional team killing.6. No exploiting server lag, server glitches, and/or client glitches.7. No "trade killing" or offering of free kills.8. Lameness (as determined by the mods) is also illegal. That should cover anything not explicitly on this list. Using third party cheat utilities will result in a ban and possibly a net ban.Common sense applies to rules that may not be listed.Punishment varies depending on staff member. Consider an analogy to laws in real life. Laws are specific because they need to be specific in order to punish offenders. The last rule is my favorite; the "WE CAN BAN YOU BECAUSE WE HAVE BIG EGOS" clause of the hyperspace constitution is akin to Guantanamo Bay, which I know you're quite fond of, Dr Brain. My $.02
Acer Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 I agree, having a list of specific rules would be ideal, and yeah the last rule is simply ridiculous because something that might be lame to a mod might not be lame to everyone in the zone, some instants this probably happened.
Samapico Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 Turreting with flags is fun... Hunting a turret with flags is also fun, I don't see the problem. Unless his own entire team wanted him to get in the base or something. But one advice Courage, ops might be more inclined to listen to opinions if they're not in topics titled 'YO DICKBAGS'. First of all the title is so unspecific some people won't even bother reading it. And secondly, there's the obvious 'He won't respect me, why would I listen to his opinion anyway'. And don't take it too personally, most people tend to do this when they are irritated.
Cheese Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 (edited) especially when idiots like rivel and masaru like to steal money and silence for absolutely no reason, and even when asked dont even bother to make up one.still trying to figure out why someone who silences someone who doesnt speak in chat, and repeatedly kept silencing after his actions were reversed by upper staff, repeatedly, is still on staff. it would be an improvement if rare was the only person left on staff, because he actually does his job sometimes when he isnt afk.even if it was banning deliberate tkers like FordPrefect. hs needs less idiots on staff, and rules that are actually stated somewhere.and not idiot rules like 'WHATEVER THE FUCK WE FEEL LIKE, LOL', because why bother even having a list of rules if thats a rule? Bundt Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 (edited) The part Courage forgot to mention was that FordPrefect began teamkilling our lanc (me) and others multiple times after being summoned to the base. I was the one who reported him to RareItanium, and Ford even admitted to doing it on pub chat, so no point arguing about it. He deserved the ban. Edited June 14, 2010 by Bundt

Dr Brain Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 I am really starting to get tired of this zone. You nerf items without telling anyone, you have rules that cater to three year old hyperconservative children, and you're wildly inconsistent. What was nerfed, exactly? Are you talking about that guy that thought we nerfed something but it turns out he was looking at a screenshot from 2 years back? In case you hadn't noticed, all my time is devoted to dealing with people like you. Leaving none for development, nerfing or otherwise. I'd be ok with the garbage that goes on in zone if you were at least honest about it. FordPrefect was banned for two days for "disrupting flag game." He turreted with flags twice in a 5V5 flag game. Apparently that warrants a two day ban now. What's dishonest about bans? If I'm not mistaken, many other zones use them besides Hyperspace. I know nothing about that specific situation. Is it possible he was warned? Is it possible that he's been warned about this sort of thing in the past? Or is it possible that he was teamkilling as some in this thread suggest? I don't have these answers and I'm not going to judge the situation without these answers. It would be really neat if the rules weren't written by third graders. Which author are you referring to, specifically? Consider an analogy to laws in real life. Laws are specific because they need to be specific in order to punish offenders. The last rule is my favorite; the "WE CAN BAN YOU BECAUSE WE HAVE BIG EGOS" clause of the hyperspace constitution is akin to Guantanamo Bay, which I know you're quite fond of, Dr Brain. If we're going to make comparisons with real life, then Hyperspace is private property, and you're all here at my invitation. Hyperspace is not a government, democratic or otherwise. You follow my rules, or you leave. Those rules were written a long time ago, and no one has had the time to rewrite them to reflect current circumstances. You'll notice that you broke rule #1 at least twice in your post before I edited it. It follows that you're incapable of following any rules, written or not. How will elaborating on the existing rules help you, exactly?
kid Posted June 15, 2010 Author Report Posted June 15, 2010 (edited) ... Edited June 15, 2010 by Dr Brain Post deleted for breaking rule #1
L.C. Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 (edited) I'm making personal affronts because I think you're stupid. By resorting to a personal level like this, nobody will ever have a reason to listen to you. If you want to do it, fine. But don't expect anyone to care or listen. EDIT: Also, I think it's against the rules here too, but I will let a moderator be the judge of that. Edited June 15, 2010 by Dr Brain

»Purge Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 You'll notice that you broke rule #1 at least twice in your post before I edited it. It follows that you're incapable of following any rules, written or not.Personally, I'd think removing Rule #1 would make this zone more competitive and give less of a headache to staff from whiners in the zone, but it seems even if the curses are censored bans are still warranted (even if the person isn't a repeat offender, i.e. myself). So, what's the point of that fancy obscene module? If we're going to make comparisons with real life, then Hyperspace is private property, and you're all here at my invitation. Hyperspace is not a government, democratic or otherwise. You follow my rules, or you leave. Those rules were written a long time ago, and no one has had the time to rewrite them to reflect current circumstances.Treating the zone as private property with players only able to play because you "allow" it doesn't seem like a feasible management system to me, but I know you were trying to get the subtle point of 'playing a game shouldn't be so political' across. It seems that this zone has gone from developmental success to unmaintainable failure. You guys used to develop so much in the past that players had much fewer problems than now, but unfortunately each of the developer's free time is limited so all you can do now is try to maintain some sort of balance, which apparently always fails. If serious development is not in the zone's future, then I'd say at least rewrite the rules to solve these silly problems that only Hyperspace seems to have.

But hurling insults and going about at a personal level is no way to get things done. Please give advice when advised and read the post thoroughly before replying at all. The audacity to correct ones approach to a matter, beyond your concern, without knowing the background information, players, and overall situation is naive. I suppose you were trying to be the voice of reason, the "logic" if you will...but in all in all ignorance breeds ignorance, wouldn't you agree? Normally you would be correct on all accounts, but in a situation where staff constantly ignore players and respond in a less then fair manner, it is hard to judge someone for resorting to their lesser nature. So to each their own, and in other words, please go back to where you come from. Alternative: Know and be known. *** I take it you'll be mature enough to take the advice kindly, receive it in an adult manner, and leave this topic.

Kilo Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 So is this a thread complaining about staff, or a thread complaining about not being told about minor changes done 4 months+ ago?

That's why the ?summon feature exists. He could have turned on antisummon if he wanted to avoid being summoned. I was summoning other players as well, and many of them remained in base and helped. Only Ford decided to start killing his own teammates because he was upset we were drawing people away from his little party in center.
Dr Brain Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 This post is being closed due to courage's inability to follow the rules in a simple conversation, after being warned. If this had happened in game, it would have been a 24-hour ban. If someone has a problem and wants to post it in a coherent manner, feel free to do so. Then we can have a civilized discussion.
