What I don't get fly swatter, is why you won't simply join up with the 'other' clone project. There is no need or use for useless schisms once DSB goes offline. We already discussed this, and your idea of 'may the best clone win' is totally counterproductive. When we arrive at that point that DSB goes offline it's suicide to fracture a community that already has gotten such a blow. Do you really want your own DSB that bad?

Gentlemen, lets not start goin for each other's throats just yet. Both of you have valid points, and justification for whatever you want to do creatively, just as anyone in Subspace does. However I would like to post about things "I" have seen lately in DSB.

These points are from the perspective of a Pub Player, and nothing else.

Why do upper staff in DSB do nothing but set in spec and attempt to say something clever or witty? In my time at DSB I have never seen a SMOD help anyone,(player wise)or help with anything period. Also let me state that as in SMOD i mean someone WITHOUT the required "Op>" in front of there nick.I know that some ops have different level's of staff position.I have never even seen these people "play" subspace. It seems to me that a lot of people are claiming "I love subspace" or "I love DSB and its my home" ect.My question to you is DO YOU EVEN PLAY SUBSPACE ANYMORE?And before you flame me as not "Knowing" what it takes to be on staff or "how" a zone is run,I have held ALL levels of staff positions for years in different zones.I can also tell you that it is much better to be "just" a Public player in my opinion.

What can be done to help raise the zone population of DSB and Subspace in general?HELP new-comers with gameplay. They are very easy to spot.Usually asking "how do i change ships" or "how do i attach" ect.DO NOT rely on them to type ?go tutorial or type ?help and someone will help you(worthless in DSB unless a Op> is present),take a personal interest in making sure this person understands gameplay, and gets the MAXIMUM enjoyment from his/her initial contact with Subspace.Think no one new comes to subspace?WRONG!I myself have helped new people with minor understandings at the rate of 1-2 a week.Often being Chided by people in spec for doing so.If you are setting in spec and doing nothing but chatting and "trying" to act as cool as possible, chances are you wont even know or care if this happens.Bottom line is there is only one reason a person would even log on to a game they dont even play. They are assigning a "importance" to themselves that may not even exist. This is not rocket science people.Get out of spec and play, involve yourself with the actual "playing community" and show some interest in whats really going on.If you want to set on your ASS in spec and rely on automated help and tutorials, and the "coolness" of being someone in said zone, you are headed for EPIC FAIL.

It should be the responsibility of everyone capable of doing so to help newcomers, yet 95% of people will advise them to 'esc-q' to change ship or whatever. This behavior is widespread throughout continuum (and possibly most online games), but you're right that ops should give the example. I can't agree that ops in DSB act like that, because I don't play enough there and I can't judge, but if ops join in the 95% that try to drive away newbies, a change of staff (or at least of philosophy) is indeed required. And that goes for every zone, really.

Some of you might find this interesting or having some truth:

Our Hiring Philosophy

I have a philosophy of how I pick out people and hire them. Do you want to be staff? Well you cannot if you just show your unrecognized, stranger-like face in the zone. When a new player connects and suddenly asks to be a Sysop, they will not receive it because we do not know them. You should instead play in the zone as part of the zone's daily population. It will take time, perhaps a few weeks, but a long term is usually more rewarding than a short term. If you cannot do this, you do not really want to be staff. You only want the power to abuse and show how much of a hotshot and important person you are.

This is simply my way of testing you whether you truly are an Dragonball Z player or not. I will not hire strangers and unrecognized players. As a daily player, you become recognized over time by all the daily players of the zone and become less a stranger to us. You become part of the zone. This is where you have a better chance of being hired. An ideal third party method would be to register on the zone forums and post whenever necessary or possible. Obeying the common sense rules you were born with, having a positive attitude, helping others, and playing in the zone are also involved.

So please, do not come in here and ask for staff powers as a new player.

Duty Philosophy

I believe that a staff member of any job has a specific duty to fulfill, and it is not to advance in the rank of power. A true staff member is one who serves to serve the zone's players, and careless of how much power they have. When someone applies for staff, they are wanting to volunteer to serve the players of Dragonball Z - not to gain as much power as possible. As a staff member, you are no more equal than a player. Just because you are staff does not mean you have more priviledges or rights than an ordinary player. If you think it is about power, moving up in the ranks, or being promoted, you are dead wrong and have come to the wrong zone to achieve such "accomplishments."

Let us say that for instance, you applied for staff and you were selected and chosen to be a moderator. Your job is to fulfill the objectives of any other moderator, and that is to serve the players. Being promoted is not an objective. The sole purpose for staffing is to maintain the law and order within a zone, as well as serving it's players. A staff member who asks for promotion is more likely to be fired from his or her position simply for having the wrong attitude and perspective at what it means to be a staff member in this zone. You should not be a staff member if you are here to abuse the commands priviledged to you, if you want to move up in the ranks, if you do not want to serve Dragonball Z and her players, and the list goes on.

It should become very clear and logical that the concept of staffing should be taken seriously and without question. Those who are happy with their job and have become loyal to Dragonball Z, careless of what capabilities they have, is an example of a true staff member. Once you become a Moderator or Super Moderator, it means absolutely nothing. Nobody pinned a badge on you declaring that you are the corrupt dictator of the zone and have the ability to manipulate or use that title for your own benefit. Any staff member who corruptly uses their power may be revoked of their access for a full scoring term (or a two week period before a global scorereset throughout the SSC Network), or may have harsher consequences depending on how wrong their actions were.

I want staff members to not even realize they are or were staff members in the first place, because you are not. You are still a player and must abide by all rules, as if you were "powerless." The primary purpose of having such priviledge to commands is to control players who have broken rules, where usually that should not be a problem at all. If you are a staff member and is bored, you either have missed the point of staffing altogether or have naturally grown old with Subspace (Continuum).

I had to go dig that up from my backups; could use some rewriting and grammar corrections of course. This was used for SSCI Dragonball Z back when I led the "Revival Project". Unfortunately, from my experience and my point of view, the majority of people in this game are not fit to run or operate a zone, or partake in staffship. It requires maturity to be a staff member, something that 95% of the people probably don't have. :p But that's just me.

EDIT: Furthermore, if I may add, staffship is also about The Game. I love SubSpace, and that's my focus. I don't care what anyone else says when it comes to my motivations and intentions of doing my best in bettering, helping, improving, and doing a service to The Game. Serving this game is a selfless spirit, even if you aren't a staff member or if you don't have any "special" kind of power, authority, or ability.

It starts with perspective and attitude.

Based my assertion from the following quote.

Especially if you're banning people just because you don't like them already... yeah this definitely wont end well. SSC should just give the current zone over to the_snake now. Edited by LiDDiS

The reference to perm banning Spin or Falc is just a attempt at humor. If you have been in DSB for ANY length of time, then you know what I am talking about.Shouldn't be taken seriously under any circumstances. My Bad.

Hey..

I also go by the name Falconeer

A very few Some of you know me from SSCA Devastation Zone. I have made a few friends there in the past. DEVASTATION FOR LIFE!

Anyway after reading what was said here for the past week I want to inform the community of my DSB Blog. I made it back in February. I just made it to show events and news that otherwise would go unnoticed in DSB. Also since bans are not to be discussed in DSB I wanted a place where the community could speak freely without being banned from DSB forums. The site has seen very little attention for months and was behind on updates since im lazy and I was not really into it. Lately the events have sparked my interest and so the site has seen a spark too. Personally I just made the site for a few laughs in some cases and to express my opinions. Though much of what I post is backed up with screenshots and logs because thats the way I like it.

I also wanted to let people know that my latest update shows many contrasts between what hoch says and what he plans to do.. if you read the evidence much taken directly from DSB forums you will see what I mean..

As a reminder there is an official Poll on my site where you can vote for the_snake if you support the future of DSB.

The best/most I can say about all of this situation...

There is a DSB...

There will be a DSB...

Hoch is not the end of DSB...

I know Hoch feels his reasoning is good/right, but people aren't going to accept it like he hopes.

A quote that applies to all of SubSpace, along with DSB:

"We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight!"

Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world, and you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. Mankind. That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom. Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution… but from annihilation. We're fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice: We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

hmm... didn't know it came from that also. I always remembered it from an old War movie my grandfather loved to watch when it was on AMC. But alas, everything is always reused anyways.

The dumbest part of all this is Hoch doesn't even play DSB. I've been around since 2003 and I've never seen him play. Aside from paying for the server I don't think he's really done anything either. Hoch acts like he's important but if he suddenly left DSB it wouldn't matter. No one would care. He should be the last person to be able to make a decision like this.

I think Hoch just leads a sad empty life and the only way to satisfy his need for power is through a video game. He doesn't want to give up the only thing he has. That and/or he's a disturbed individual who gets amusement out of controlling people who can't do anything about it, kind of like a child molester or a nazi doctor.

Yeah thats another problem. DSB staff are a bunch of useless stiffs. Hoch and Beer Hunter hold the most important positions but they do the least. They know they're really bad but they won't resign because their successors will make them look even worse. It's kinda pathetic.

lol^, maybe so, but you have to admit that dsb has seen better up time and better stability then the other top zones. tw, eg never see's dsb players there because there zone is down do they?
