For a minimal fee of 5% I can handle your bets: both players give me 500k (or whatever the bet is), and whoever wins gets 950k (1000k - 5%)

 

It's a small price to pay to avoid not getting your 500k.

Been done before. What makes you think they would even start the duel if they had to give the money to a middleman? Additionally, I am usually betting against my ships as collateral, so I would have to sell them and lose money in order to duel.
