Ellitivity Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 I have always loved continuum and recently bought a laptop that runs windows 7 x64 bit. I install continuum040 and launch, the mouse does the loading symbol yet nothing happens. it doesn't even appear in the task manager. I don't have it UAC activated (i don't have to go 'Run As Administrator', i even turned off all of the firewalls and added continuum as a trusted program. still nothing. if anyone knows how i can launch subspace it would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.
»Maverick Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 Have you tried disabling Data Execution Program (DEP) (if it even exists in Windows 7)? It may also be possible that your computer has Data Execution Program (DEP) enabled for all programs. For Windows XP, right click on “My Computer” and follow “Properties > Advanced > Performance Settings > Data Execution Prevention” Once you have opened DEP, see if you have 'Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only', if so, check 'Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select'. Next add Continuum.exe to the list, and apply. Then you can go back to 'Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only' if you'd like, and it will load fine. For Vista, go into “Start > Computer > System Properties (button under the link bar) > Advanced System Settings (on the left navigation menu) > Performance (click settings)”. Now move over to the one that says “Data Execution Program”, and add Continuum to the list. Read the full FAQ item about not loading Continuum here
Shock Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 Had the same problem on my 7 64 machine. DEP fixes it.
MikeTheNose Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Interesting. I have Win7 and DEP enabled and I don't have continuum on the list but it runs fine. Is your version of Win7 up to date?
Samapico Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 Interesting. I have Win7 and DEP enabled and I don't have continuum on the list but it runs fine. Is your version of Win7 up to date?Dunno if you noticed, but it's pretty much impossible to tell when or why exactly Continuum doesn't run on some machines... I have an antivirus and it runs fine, some people had to uninstall their antivirus to get it to work, some others can't get it to work anyway.
Dav Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 Have you tried uninsta;;ing the game and reinstalling it to a dofferent directory?
Ellitivity Posted May 22, 2010 Author Report Posted May 22, 2010 I added it to DEP i've got no anti-virus, windows defender is gone, windows firewall off and i've tried the uninstall and reinstall in a new location. still nothing.
Ellitivity Posted May 22, 2010 Author Report Posted May 22, 2010 Don't worry anymore. I got it working. i just had to change the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) from all programs except the chosen ones to all windows essential programs only.
Chambahs Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 When i upgraded to win7 64-bit. I just downloaded continuum and played. No problems.
MikeTheNose Posted May 26, 2010 Report Posted May 26, 2010 What I see is as long as DEP is set to "Essential Programs Only" it will work fine. Having DEP disabled is bad (for an internet computer).
