»freakmonger Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 (edited) With unforeseen circumstances come up recently I have to cut some of my financial obligations. So I am in need of donations for the SSCC Game Server AKA MetalGear, Desert Storm, SSCC Halo, SSCC The Complex, SSCC RedStar, SSCC Star Wars Empire and i need it fast. This is the first time I've asked for donations for the SSCC Game Server. If I can't get enough to continue the payments on the Server I will have to terminate the service. I really hate to have to ask for donations and I would hate it even more if I had to terminate the service. freakmonger@hotmail.com is my paypal Thanks for your time. »Lynx Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Sorry to hear that, when the University pays me I'll try to donate some cash. How much do you need to raise? Quote
»freakmonger Posted April 29, 2010 Author Report Posted April 29, 2010 The monthly payment is $165/ month. It was the plan that Testtube created back in 04. I just need enough to cover for 2 months or so. Quote
Dr Brain Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 I'd be willing to help encourage donations from Hyperspace players by giving $50,000 HSD or 250 exp (not to exceed 25k exp on any one account) for every $1 USD donated to Freakmonger. Freakmonger would have to be willing to confirm that the donations happened, of course. Quote
»freakmonger Posted April 29, 2010 Author Report Posted April 29, 2010 That would be great Brain. I'd gladly confirm any donations. Quote
vetta64 Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Any other payment methods besides paypal? Quote
PoLiX Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 You could get a cheaper, and from the stats I remember, better server very easily you know. Yes the move would suck, but you aren't using too much resources, and the zones you are hosting are mostly dead. And 2 of them I know are possibly planning to move... Actually both are currently online on a seperate SSC server afaik. Quote
»freakmonger Posted April 30, 2010 Author Report Posted April 30, 2010 Thanks Joe http://www.ssforum.net/public/style_emoticons/default/drinks.gif At the time when we were talking about moving, we were having problems adding new Servers to the firewall remember But I want to get with you and discuss this more soon. Raw-Tard Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 goodshot, i get paid today any 1 kno how 2 work paypal? Quote
»Lynx Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Go to the PayPal website, sign up, confirm your address with them, link a credit card and you're done. Quote
Hakaku Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Uhhhhh... It really doesn't address the problem at hand, which was asking for donations to upkeep the above-mentioned zones. It has nothing to do with the SSC; even if they weren't connected to the biller it would still cost money. Quote
L.C. Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 @freakmongerHow much more do you need in donations? Quote
»freakmonger Posted May 1, 2010 Author Report Posted May 1, 2010 May is covered thanks to Joe. Again, thanks man June isn't covered yet, so I'm still taking donations from whoever can manage. Thanks again guys. P.S. Can a mod clean this topic up please? Thanks Quote
»freakmonger Posted May 5, 2010 Author Report Posted May 5, 2010 I've got $75 for the month of June so far. Thanks Guys http://www.ssforum.net/public/style_emoticons/default/drinks.gif Quote
CreatiX Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 (edited) i wonder why your server is that expensive freak? Ive got a really good root-server (http://www.hetzner.de/de/hosting/produkte_rootserver/eq6/) which i run 15 Counter-Strike Source servers on for only 70 €/month.The latency is great (however its a german host), but I dont really use it for anything else atm nor do i have to host those CSS servers on it. I wouldnt mind to let u or any other SSC host use it if needed. just let me know. Edited May 6, 2010 by CreatiX Quote

»Lynx Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 Uhhh, why on earth would you pay that much for a server to host Continuum. I mean, really... That's complete overkill. I'd have understood perhaps 5-10 years ago when hosting was a little more expensive/harder to come by but a 100MBPS Unlimited with Dual Intel Xeon 3.06Ghz CPUs 4GB RAM, 160 GB SATA Drive for £100 a month is complete overkill for (in reality) 50 or so players. Continuum needs the bare minimum when it comes to processing power and RAM (for ASSS at least); and if anything it needs a server with a stable ping; which is relatively low for the majority of it's players (which is usually the case whenever a server is located at either a major server barn, or NJ/NY etc.) I mean, even when Trech Wars was in it's peak of 500 or so players a night, the total bandwidth wasn't even too excessive. 500 * 60 * 60 *24 *31 * 2KB = 2678400000 KB = 2615625 MB = 2554 GB = 2.49 TB In reality, playercount wouldn't even ever be that high at all times, so it'll probably be something more like 1.5TB/mo which is still nothing. L.C. Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 (edited) Just saying. http://www.ssforum.net/public/style_emoticons/default/blum.gif It's only a few bucks cheaper than $165, and if you have uses for other than Subspace related serverware, it's a nice plus to have around. :] A decent server to have for a Subspace SSC network would probably be around a P4 at around 2GHz (still a little bit overkill) and a GB of RAM. SSCV/BlueT hosts at least 14 zones with approximately a total of 8 MERVBot spawns (right now). Two or three of the zones run on ASSS, while the rest run on the latest version of Subgame2. The most memory a Subgame2 zone has used was SSCV Trench Wars (DEV) of almost 22MB. The least utilized was I think 11MB. The average is between 12MB and 15MB (15 is beginning to be a little on the higher side). CPU for all zones including ASSS? Minimum, average, and maximum of 0% CPU. http://www.ssforum.net/public/style_emoticons/default/blum.gif I haven't measured the MERVBots though. EDIT: ASSS tends to have a memory usage in between 6MB and 10MB. Haven't seen it go higher. So what is that.. like, worst-case scenario based on known data, could be around 310MB of memory usage not including the bots. Edited May 6, 2010 by L.C. Quote
»Xog Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 i wonder how much Cheese's distention zone uses Quote
Cheese Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 it might have a higher bandwidth, because i deal with a lot of objects. still insignificantly low, in computer terms.never forget this a decades-old spaceship game designed to run on decades-old computers.it was just awesomely advanced for its day.
