»Xog Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 (edited) I discovered Jumpgate back in 2001 but recently started playing actively. Browsing through their site I found this: What is the DANCER engine?DANCER (Drag And Near-true-physics Combined to Engineer Reality) is NetDevil's proprietary physics engine that makes space flight in Jumpgate so interesting and fun. Using Newtonian physics, your ship will continue to travel in a straight line once you accellerate, even if you rotate your vessel - this means you can be facing a completely different direction than you are moving. You might be familiar with physics like this in 2D games like Asteroids and SubSpace - feeling in full 3D space takes it to a whole new level. Lol! They mentioned Subspace! Anyways, anyone here play jumpgate? Or have played it in the past? Wanna wing up with me? I just registered for the Military and I'm doing some beacon flipping for Octavius http://www.ssforum.net/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif http://www.ssforum.net/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif http://www.ssforum.net/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif edit: link to game www.jossh.com googling jumpgate will probably get you the link to jumpgate: evolution, which is their 2nd game they're making but it's still in development. L.C. Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 Jumpgate Evolution looks very interesting. Too bad my lappy wouldn't be able to handle it. Quote
»Xog Posted April 14, 2010 Author Report Posted April 14, 2010 Jumpgate Evolution looks very interesting. Too bad my lappy wouldn't be able to handle it. 100% sure it will be able to handle it. They aim to allow VERY low system requirements while still giving high-end systems a bang for their buck. Currently 32MB video card and 56MB RAM can fully run the Jumpgate: Evolution beta. I tested it out on my old laptop when I was in the Friends & Family testing phase Quote
Samapico Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 Allegiance also has similar physics, which can be pretty awesome... You can boost one way, maintain heading, spin around, and fire at people pursuing you. Never played Jumpgate, but I assume it's similar. Is the gameplay kind of like Freelancer? Is it free? Quote
»Xog Posted April 15, 2010 Author Report Posted April 15, 2010 (edited) lol, it's more realistic. You're inside of your ship. You can use your mouse but I find joystick more fun. Pressing keys to roll your ship is retarded! just twist it Freelancer is more of an action game, whereas this is a space-shooter simulator. As if you were ACTUALLY in outerspace with your ship and shooting things. its very realistic. as for free- you can download the game for free (not too large of a file actually) and play in the offline simulator. Just be sure to buy the Phoenix ship and equip the best guns, generator, shield, etc (its all free in the simulator, you're not spending any in-game currency). MAKE SURE TO GET A DUELIST modx, and if you don't understand how to dock your ship back into the station, buy the Docking modx too. after that, press Launch. to spawn some enemies, type /ai 1 all the way to /ai 5. (in the online simulator you can spawn up to lvl 28 i believe) to dock back in with the docking modx, target the big green sphere and fly into it. it'll automatically dock for you. real airforce pilots play this game because it's so realistic. Samapico Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Offline simulator sounds boring though Guessing there's no campaign or anything? Quote
»Xog Posted April 15, 2010 Author Report Posted April 15, 2010 (edited) Offline simulator sounds boring though Guessing there's no campaign or anything? online you can kill flux, do mining, haul stuff around to stations that need it for a lot of cash, you can sign up to the military (what i did!), or you can be a pirate. Yaaar! military is fun. last night i went to all the enemy sectors and set up all of their sector beacons for my faction. Got so much XP and credits, was so much fun too. Got chased by a pirate, killed a few enemy pilots, and warped to the conflux galaxy and got a whopping 10 levels! shit was so cash dude Edited April 15, 2010 by Xog Quote
