rootbear75 Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 (edited) SO im doing my taxes for this year... and i've found some disturbing things... as opposed to last year, i made 6000 more than i did last year. STILL less than 20k (17 this year versus 11 last year) ANYWAYS, last year i got a $200+ refund from the feds and i think a $70 from VA. I do have to add that i have a 904$ 1099-Misc that i added, and somehow, i owe $312 in federal taxes ($12 in CA taxes - not unexpected...)And i'm only getting $33 from VA.... WTF What the fuck happened to the tax code that by making $6k more, i have to now OWE fucking taxes to the government, WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK!? (EDIT: By the way, i took off the 1099 on TurboTax just to see how much i owed with my 17k by itself... i STILL OWED FUCKING MONEY... like $100) Edited February 25, 2010 by rootbear75 Quote
Samapico Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 How much refund you get (or how much you owe) depends more on how much your employer took from your pay check already than on your salary Quote
rootbear75 Posted February 25, 2010 Author Report Posted February 25, 2010 nothing changed between this year and last. EXCEPT that i made $6000 more... (pay raise ($.50/hr) wouldnt matter...) Quote
whalz Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 large and overweight tax program, obama started that like 5months into his term... read up Quote
NBVegita Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Root, you did your taxes wrong. The only way you can possibly be that different on your taxes is if your deductions were adjusted to take out considerably less, or someone claimed you as a dependent on your taxes this year and did not last year. (There are other things as if you took certain credits pertaining to college or the like last year and not this year but I'm talking under a simplistic manner) Quote
»Lynx Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 I can't wait till' April to do my tax return, I was paying about 600-700/mo in taxes, but since I am now a student I can redeem that money. Wooo, c'mon tax return! Quote

Wooo, c'mon tax return! You know you can do them now, right? You don't have to wait until the 15th of April. Quote
»Lynx Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Yeah, but I think that I don't get any money until April. Quote
Dr Brain Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 No, they mail it within a certain number of weeks after they get your tax return. This is all about the USA. If you live somewhere else, it probably won't be the same. Quote
Audry Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Mail? lol i get all my money directly deposed in my bank account! <3 Canada Quote
whalz Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 im glad i live in canada, cus they might mail you anthrax instead of your tax refund!.. crazy americans Quote
BDwinsAlt Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 My tax return was directly deposited to my bank account in like 6 days of filing it. I filed it electronically though. Mail takes weeks. What you need to do is say you gave to charity, this will reduce your taxable income, but you may be audited and need a receipt. In the state of Alabama, if you train people how to bass fish, you get an additional refund. All you need to do is have a log of names/times when you taught someone. No real checking. Find some kind of loop hole is jump through it. Quote

(There are other things as if you took certain credits pertaining to college or the like last year and not this year but I'm talking under a simplistic manner)I didnt change any of my deductions last year. I was still considered a dependant this year and last year... I mean, i have a 904$ 1099-Misc, but that still shouldnt make up that big of a difference.... Quote
BDwinsAlt Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 3047$ ggMust be nice to be black. Just kidding just kidding. Yeah root that sucks. Quote
Audry Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Still waiting on a paper to do mine bleh Quote
rootbear75 Posted February 26, 2010 Author Report Posted February 26, 2010 so: i tried a different tax service... apparently NOT including the 1099 would mean i owe $57 (somehow...) to the federal govt. and i would have gotten $75 from virginia state. so i tried taxact instead of turbo tax, and yet again: Owed $312 to feds, and got $33 from VA (I omitted CA cause im a student so i don't classify as a CA non-resident i guess???) ($12 i dont have to pay YAY) Im still working for him again this year... debating so i dont have to fucking do this again... I LIKE getting a tax refund... its like a 3/4 year birthday present for me... lol Quote
NBVegita Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 the only other way would have been that you made the 11k in bigger paychecks over a short period of time and you made the 17k over a bunch of small paychecks or multiple jobs. Either that or your deductions are actually f'd up. Also it's been a while since I've been a dependent, but it does mean you lost out on things like the $400 making work pay credit and the like. Quote
rootbear75 Posted February 26, 2010 Author Report Posted February 26, 2010 yea i think my deductions are f*d up thinking about it... i think i claimed myself as a dependant originally (last year) and I didn't change it this year.... i dont remember.. Quote
No_Remorse Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 (edited) You probably made under the poverty line and got all your income tax back last year. This year you may have been over(the poverty line) so you just get what you over-payed. edit- or owe what you under-payed Alternatively you may have went to H&R Block, big mistake. No_Remorse Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 nice input... ya fags. why do i even check this shit anymore. 14 years and it's a bunch of newbs and schmucks talking about who knows what or who gives a fuck. i think next time i'll skip my by-weekly ssforum visit. Quote
