Then we could make circles, squares, rectangles, ovals, and just whatever we want that looks exactly like Trench War's asteroid belt.

Should be able to set a width,

whether the pattern is constant from "start to finish" or varies for every block (If it is constant, chances are someone will be able to look at it and quickly detect that the "randomness" of the asteroids repeats in each block),

and what tile (if any -- user specifiable) is used to keep ships of 1x1 tile size or smaller from passing through the asteroid belt to the other side.

^_^

EDIT: TW-style asteroid belt is the main purpose, but perhaps this can also be extended to "specified tile" as well. I can imagine an "asteroid belt" of wormholes, or safety zone tiles, or whatever. To specify tiles, there would be up to 3 levels: Primary, Secondary, Tertiary.

In the TW-style the Primary would be the 2x2 asteroid, the Secondary the 1x1 asteroid, and nothing for the Tertiary. Special tiles do not need to have their dimensions defined, but if you are using something normal like safety tiles or regular wall tile -- you need to specify the following:

Width (in tiles)

Height (in tiles)

Shape: Square/Circle/Oval

Fill in shape?

Fill in shape? Yes. Use selected tile? (if yes, it uses the tile you selected for this Primary/Secondary/Tertiary -- whichever one it is for)

Fill in shape? Yes. Use selected tile? No. Which tile to use?

With those, you could make an "asteroid belt" of bubbles by just using a circle shape, and varying the dimensions of Primary/Secondary/Tertiary.

You can use the airbrush tool to put random asteroids in there

Though it doesn't guarantee the non-passability

I doubt I'll be implementing any of your suggestions anytime soon... I'd rather work on porting the editor to the Discretion engine
