Kameloh Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 I know I haven't posted here in a long time but I figured it's probably one of the best places to find smart people! I'm developing an art community site (nabyn.com) and I'm having trouble starting out a good Terms of Service/Privacy Policy. I'm not sure how I should start it and I was wondering if anyone here has any advice (or links) on the topic. Any kind of help is appreciated! (Random note: I miss posting here and I can't login to my other account Kameloh because I forgot my password/e-mail ) Quote
Hakaku Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Take a look at what other similar websites have written in their own terms of service/policies. It will give you a pretty rough idea of what you may want to choose to include and how to appropriately lay out the information. That's really the best advice that anyone can give you. You really have to know what type of website you're building, who your target audience is, what priviledges they're given, how they can license their content, whether their private information is protected, whether marketers can spam users with promotional advertisements, whether third parties are allowed to collect information and statistics, on what premise can users be banned, etc. Start off small, and keep updating your TOS and policies when you feel that you need to make changes (also make sure to note that the terms and whatnot may change at any time blablabla). Trained Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Polix FAIL. Hi Kameh! I wish I could help, but my grammar is crap. Spelling aswell. Good to see you though! Quote
Kameloh Posted February 13, 2010 Author Report Posted February 13, 2010 Haha thank you for the gesture PoLiX - I really appreciate it (and special thanks to Samapico for helping me out!) Hakaku: Thank you for your input as well. I'll be taking a look at other smaller art sites for examples and I'll start outlying all the important things for a terms of service. I've been reluctant to write a TOS because I'm afraid of messing things (and having my users pay for it).. but I'll do my best to get things right. Again thank you - I knew this would be the right place to find smarts. I'll try to post on ssforum more since I got my username back! (And hello to you too Trained haha!) Quote
