Gasket terminology

Is there a difference between a gasket, head gasket, gasket plate, etc? What is it? X_x

Here's a bunch of different seals if you're interested.

 

My favorit seal is a Ribbon Seal. I like the way it's designed.

gasket/gasket plate = seal

 

head gasket = seal found on a car engine, sits between engine block and cylinders (if it's blown you get white stuff all over the top of the engine/hood/bonet whatever)

Well, in Fast and the Furious, there's computer chips and setups that guage certain aspects of the car and its performance. Pretty sure your average mechanic wouldn't know how to make one

No, people rely on Electrical Engineers and Computer Engineers to do things with directly with chips. Computer Scientists are for programming PCs.

car lingo is like spanish compared to computer (which is like greek to most)

 

ive been hanging out a processing junk yard.. processing junk cars.. at least i know 100% how the radiator works o_O and can (roughly) say i can maintain 30% of my car.. the other 60% is unknown and probly the other 10% is electronic stuff (computers and wires and relays and fuses)

 

but hey 30% is still pretty good..

I've build an old motorbike engine, and I'd like to buy an old school mini cooper and see what engine I can fit into it when I'm older. My dad is a mechanic/fitter, and I used to want to be one when I was a kid. Modern cars, though, they're all diagnostic based; and I wouldn't even think about getting into EE. Even more Mathematics than CS? No thanks.

i have a 90's mercury capri. such a pain to work on you have to take out everything to get to anything
