Subspace Radio

Hi!

 

I'm hoping to start a Subspace wide Shoutcast radio network, absorbing all individual zone radios into one, big, communal radio network. Benefits of this would include higher listener counts, inter zone cooperation, and perhaps (hopefully) a different attitude. Labeling ourselves as SUBSPACE players, not just 'hai im from hz' or 'I'm an MGer'. If we present a more unified player base for the client itself, it sure as hell can't hurt for raising the overall Subspace/Continuum popularity.

 

The logistics of this are fairly simple. Any zone administrators and/or radio administrators that deem this little endeavor worthy of their cooperation and contribution can contact me, and either offer their help or just let me know that they would be interested in including their zone's radio in this, or keeping their radio as an independent entity of their respective zone.

 

Hosting is a non-issue, Dezmond) and I have a free streaming host with a listener cap of 100. If this really takes off, and that cap is too low, I see no problem with finding/funding a low budget solution.

 

Also, the task of ADVERTISING the radios activity has a variety of possibilities. A simple solution (in my naive eyes) is to simply have a small bot/module in each zone, accessible by the registered DJs. The DJ would conceivably !advertise with the bot/module he was in the zone with, and that bot would *zone whatever advertisement message that we come up with. Then that bot would relay the command to each module incorporated with this network. Upon reception, the bot/module would then *zone the message itself, allowing the DJ to advertise from the comfort of one zone. This would avoid having a bot becoming a billerop and needing to *szone something.

 

But like I said, this is only a possibility. Any other ideas are welcome. But first, we need to get this off the ground, and generate some dialogue in regards to this.

Objective:

The objective and goal is to create an SSC Wide "SS Radio" that all players from all zones across the SSC network can connect to. Thus, helping continuum become more centralized/unified/comming more together as a network, more than being seperated.

 

 

Support:

All major SSC zone sysops/owners have said that this is a great idea for the SS community and have agreed to participate and help support the idea of an "SS Radio". All current zone radios (EG Radio, TW Radio, etc) will be redirecting listeners to the new "SS Radio" as well.

 

 

Protocol:

All zones will be given connection information, which will then be passed down to the zone's choice of DJ's. Each DJ can represent their zone on air by mildly advertising, hosting events, doing shout outs, taking song request, and just having fun. Its all pretty much about having fun while playing. Stress free, listening to music, and just enjoy yourselves.

 

 

Advertising:

Advertising of zones is allowed, as long as it is under control. There is a difference between "MG is current having a big prized event, you should come check it out." and "OMG COME TO TW, ITS THE BEST ZONE EVAR, COME COME COME" after every song. If there are DJs that would like to go zone hopping and give information on all zones, thats fine too. A simple "Im in DS now and theres alot of pop in here, big flag game going on, jackpot is big." and a couple minutes later saying "Just came into EG and staff is giving out free prizes". As long as it is subtle and mild, then its all fine, and actually encouraged to advertise, that is what its all about, spreading the word across the SSC Network's players.

 

 

 

Rules:

--No obnoxious/mass advertising (Read the "Advertising Section")

--No obsessive/overboard swearing (Be mature, use common sense)

--Songs must be played (You cant sit there and talk for an hour)

--No racism/racist comments or materials.

 

Moderation:

The majority of moderation will be the listeners themselves. If there are alot of complaints about a specific DJ, the problem will be talked about and resolved. Also, there will be a few people I might pick just to pop in and listen to check if any rules are being broken. SS Radio site will have a "complaints" section. This, as well as everything else, is not final.

Now all we need is a SS teamspeak server with a channel for each zone.

Well unless BaK- and Dr Brain implement a voice thing to go into Discretion/ASSS. BaK- thinks it is a good idea. A little speaker by the person's name when they talk would be cool. It would be so much easier to flag and duel if you can talk instead of type while you're trying to play.

 

SS Radio sounds cool. I really think we can unify the zones better this way. Advertising events in different zones would more than likely help, probably more so than twitter.

The one thing that you have to do, is not give anyone admin access.

 

Thats where I messed up, I went out one night, one person gave admin to another, and to another, and yet, to another, then it went from 2 people having admin, to about 5. Thats when people bump heads, get into fights, agree to disagree and then go their seperate ways.

 

Also, one major flaw in my version of SS radio, I was rushed by the server provider to put up SS Radio when it was still pre-mature. Dont rush it, its not going anywhere, make sure you work out all the kinks before you put it up.

 

Heres what -really- went down:

 

1. Everything got set up, people were starting to sign up to be DJ's, I was going around getting -every- sysop of -every- zone interested and on page.

2. I had all the sysops announce that their seperate zone radios would be shut down, and all radio listeners would be directed to SS Radio.

3. Everyone was starting to get together, the plan was to first have a community of supporters before actually putting the radio up.

4. One night, we decide to test the quality, check how much b/w it was consuming, checking all the stats, whatever.

5. Everyone was so excited about the radio, that the test somehow became the first actual broadcast, and we got like 15-20 listeners right off the bat.

6. Boba kept telling me that he didnt want to wait, and if I didnt put up the radio, he would go back to hosting EG's radio.

7. One night I went out, and one of the DJ's played a 50 Cent song, 50 obviously said "nigga", and TW admins went apeshit.

8. Since I wasnt reachable, im guessing people went to Boba since they knew he hosted the server and flamed him im guessing.

9. Boba calls my cell, when im out getting drunk, in a panic, talking about "OMG HALP HALP APESHIT LOUD NOISES".

10. Being drunk, at a party, surrounded by chics and booze...I didnt really give a shit about a 2d space shooter game on my computer, so I kept partying.

11. Come back home, seems Boba gave Jericho and Sneakerz admin rights for reasons I dont know of, TW pulled out of supporting SS Radio, and everything is in a clusterfuck.

12. I tell TW to stop crying like girls because "nigga" was said by 50 cent on a radio, Rai supposedly told one of my DJ's off, so being who I am, told rai to go fuck himself.

13. TW pulled out, EG pulled out, and Jericho was power hungry as usual, so when i said im taking his admin because he had no reason to get it in the first place, DS pulled out.

14. Fed up with egotistical elitests (Rai), bitch ass crybabies (TW), power hungry faggots (Jeri), people who panic under pressure (Boba), and "lets follow TW" (EG), I closed down SS Radio.

I went into MG for a few hours and some dude was running a MG radio broadcast. I dont normally tune in but i did this time. I found myself really enjoying the songs played and found myself singing along a couple of times

I quit Trenchwars Radio cause there was a better opportunity at MG Radio. And I was right. If ssradio starts, I think we will get some hosts from Trenchwars

Indeed, if you permit people to play uncensored song, TW will refuse to join.

 

I think a good concession would be to make a certain schedule, where you have "clean" hours and some "raw" hours. TW could get their DJ to play on the Clean hours, and block the radio advertising on the raw hours. Or something like that...
