It seems to be that America is the most hated country, followed by Isreal, Iran, China, and Russia.

Why is this?

I personally think that it had mostly to do with George W Bush's use of his power. For example, When he took office we were a financial power house with huge budget surpluses, an expanding economy; our currency meant stability to people around the world; we had a moral and ethical high ground in our international dealings.

Right after the 9/11 attacks, the world's sympathy was with us; Europeans, Arabs, South Americans, Asians we are standing behind us to fight terrorism. We had a great opportunity to safeguard our and the world's future against terrorism by taking out OBL and his cohorts.

Fast forward some years and still within GWB's presidency, we find ourselves in a recession, realestate collapsing, unemployment rising, a devalued dollar, a deeply polarized nation and America's moral leadership at the lowest level. We have a 3 trillion war on our hands and the terrorists are still elusive and getting more momentum and strength.

What a great opportunity missed and what a terrible fall.

Why do you guys think America is one of the most hated countries?

Is it the people or the goverment or more?

You're wrong on pretty much everything there.

I agree with Dr Brain. First of all, others countries were cheering when 9/11 happened. Chinese students got out of school and burned American flags in the street. We were hated before then. Iran didn't like us because we were the first country to recognize Israel as a country. A lot of Arabs didn't like us because we took one of their leaders and that is supposedly why they attacked us. Now whether or not the attack was done by guys in tents is any story, but the economy was better before we spent billion, almost a trillion dollars on the war. Last I checked we spent over 600 Billion on the war. That is more than the rest of the world combined. The rest of the world totals about 200 Billion or so I believe. Anyway, no one likes America because we have a huge ego, are self-centered, don't understand any other culture, were rude, and everyone has to be like us.

That's not how all Americans are, just the ones on TV and the ones with enough money to travel to those countries. It's mainly northern people that do that. In the south there's a lot more tolerance as long as you aren't gay or black.

I think it's more so the obnoxiousness, the ignorance, the patriotism etc etc etc

Yeah there is zero patriotism in Europe. I guess since we fought and defeated one of the world's greatest militaries at the time when the odds were against us we got proud. Europe has been ruled by kings and queens and really doesn't have anything to show for it.

Northerns are really nasal when they talk, that's the obnoxious part

It's the ego that does it for me. I find that it's mainly the American men that piss me off.

However I know some American men and women and they are really nice people. Plus you do have some very sexy women.

True, the women actually shave their armpits here. Although they do in some european countries too.

Yeah only some though blum.gif

Getting back on topic.

I don't think it's because of the war that people hate America, alot of countries hated America before that. As stated above people were cheering when 9/11 happened. I remember seeing on TV people dancing in the streets, burning flags etc. which is quite sickening.

Then there is the bigger is better attitude with explosives or cars or pretty much anything.

I think almost everyone can come up with a reason for hating America one way or another.

I agree with what most of the others have posted.

What G.W. did hurt our international image little to none.

We've been hated ever since we opted out of isolationism and decided that everyone's business is our business.

I actually agree with Brain here: It's incredibly myopic to think that America was loved and respected worldwide before Bush, or that everyone would have stayed in love with us for particularly long after September 11th. I do think that the atmosphere immediately after 9/11 could have been used to build internationalism, but the fact that it was not does not indicate that Bush's actions were the genesis of anti-Americanism.

Not true. Sure people hated America, but what a lot of Canadians couldn't get their heads around was why he was re-elected...at that point a lot of us did a ton of poking fun of that. (There was quite a chunk of material to use)

No offense, just letting you know Bush did have an impact. Bush's second term ended up with a negative impact on how the world saw American people.

At least that's how the critics, and political satires played with it.

It's only a short step from envy to hatred, after all.
-Dr. Brain

Doc, I believe you may be included as one of those individuals Incomplete was talking about.

Please excuse the fail quoting. 4chan has started DDoSing youtube again and it messed up my bandwidth.

Anywho, this came to my attention after I got done watching one of the burning flag videos (Remember, I'm only 16. Sept 11 2001 was when I was 8-9 years old) so I decided to do some [not so] extensive research. Mostly I've only been able to find recent post about Bush's impact, not so much on why else america is hated, atleast not in my first searches. Thanks for the opinions guys and girls.

There are a lot of things that I like about America, though. The constitution I believe is probably one of the best pieces of literature I've ever read - and if America was half as free as it claims to be it'd be a country I'd seriously be interested in moving to. Unfortunately, the whole freedom front that Americans like to gloat about is evidently bullshit. They're not quite as socialist as the UK is, but they're not far from it.

It's colder because it's farther north. Move to Mexico, take $5 and you can live like a king! Maybe start a business.

Well maybe a little more than $5, but you can have quite a few margaritas with that much.

I live in New York... I'm used to the cold. I'm also used to the hot. You see here in NY there is no real inbetween. In the spring / summer it's 90-110 F, in the winter it's 0-30 F.... fall is I guess the only inbetween sort of. it's like 30-50. And then the 50-90 phase is like one week (which is why there's so many street problems, drastic change of weather causes it to stretch, shrink, crack and pop) . :\

So true. Gets nastily humid during the summer.

Ehrm, English speaking in Europe kinda limits you, but of course with a lot of European countries, the majority of the population can speak English. To be honest with you, if you're thinking of moving to England I'd suggest you think elsewhere. London is only good if you've got a well-paid job - it's very expensive here just to get by to be honest. Then of course, if you want to get out of London, you've got to prepare for a slight drop in salary, and to be honest... things are *very* quiet - but I might just be saying that because I was brought up in the city. I'm currently in Bangor and I find that things like service/hospitality/attitude is MUCH better out here - arseholes are few and far between but... it's slow. And quite boring. I wouldn't want to live here.

The same goes for pretty much anywhere in Great Britain really - the main cities are similar to London - and the quiet places are all quite similar too. The only difference is the accents, I find - but that just might be my opinion.

As for other places in Europe - Spain can be nice, depending on where you go, and Spanish isn't a hard language to pick up. If you move to a densely populated part of Spain, most people will also be multilingual too.

France sucks. I fucking hate France.

Belguim is actually very nice, I've spent a lot of time in both Antwerp and Brussels - actually I really like Antwerp.

Switzerland is pretty good, I spent a while in Zurich with my brother - while it's REALLY expensive (I mean, it's extortionate) Zurich is a VERY clean, small city - and the amount of good looking girls there was jaw-dropping. Also, it's got a great climate, very hot in the summer, very cold in the winter - and you can catch a train up to the alps (for winter holidays etc).

Austria was alright. I tried to get my head around German, which I wasn't too bad at - but... They talk some retarded dialect called high-german or something. Impossible to understand.

I've been a load of other places too, but not really for long enough to get a feel of what it'd be like to live there.

So, big question!

What's going to happen next?

Is Obama really going to eventually fix it all. OR, are we looking at a messier future?

Discuss... . .

The perfect country to emigrate to:

Has to be English-primary speaking.

Stable economy that's backed by tangible assets such as gold/silver/paladium that's used in everyday commerce.

Is duty-free.

Has free/low cost services such as health, utilities, broadband internet that's uncensored and unlogged.

Will allow the death penalty in extreme cases but will utilize less harmful prisoners as low cost labor to rehabilitate them.

Won't overburden someone trying to start or expand their own business but won't allow bigbox companies to kill the mom&pop shops.

Will not allow a party based political system, but make the individual run on his/her own merits.

Will have natural resources worth capitalizing on, but not worth starting a war over (no oil deposits or the like)

Can be energy self-sufficient (solar/hydrocline)

Can be made into a technological superpower.

Will allow Golden Retrievers and Dachshunds but not yorkies or szhitus (yappy f***ing dogs) thumbsdown.gif

Has a viable export industry five times greater than it's imports.

There's got to be some large island or unclaimed part of something somewhere that all this can be done ladies and gents.
