A feeling you can't explain

I started this last year, though I use to be involved in this yearly on another forum I visited which has since essentially died (admin fights are fun). It is just kind of spotlighting a charity or somewhere you can donate this holiday season, somewhere many people may never think of.

 

Last year I recommended Lets Bring Em Home, a charity that sent 72 Soldiers home for the holidays. So far this year they have set a new record, and are only 10k short of sending all their requests home (142 tickets bought so far - http://www.lbeh.org/?status).

 

I know a lot of us are strapped, but a lot more of us are doing pretty well off when you look at it. I myself adopted a little girl this year and bought her the simplest of needs... pants and a warm coat. What is sad, this is what she requested. Some kids had toys, but for some it's not all about toys this year. It's basic necessities we all take for granted. Though we stepped up at work, and not a single kid's wish went ungranted. Actually some of us went a bit above and beyond. 1 girl asked for shoes. She liked shoes, but all hers we're old and worn, but a pair of nice shoes was all she wanted. A guy in our shop bought her 9 pairs of shoes. A lot of us shopped for the best deals and shared info, not to get away cheap, but so we could get/give more.

 

So I guess what I'm highlighting this year... All those old clothes you don't ware anymore that are half decent, but for one reason or another you never put em on, donate em. It opens a lot of closet space, and at the same time your giving someone something they possibly need.

 

Trust me, its a feeling you can't explain knowing some little girl will have nice clothes and a warm coat to wear. Take it from someone who was once on the other end... Yeah maybe nice clothes aren't important, just something to keep you warm, but it does really help mentally.

I do this kind of stuff every year, it really does make you feel like a better human being.. especially if you go beyond just the "normal" donation (oh let me send some money to this charity maybe it'll help someone) .. no lol. 2 years ago I discovered my mom had actually saved all my shoes up until I was 7 years old. I sent them out, along with about 20 packs of children's socks and a bunch of new shoes, shirts, shorts, and pants (all to different charity organizations).. every half a year since I was about 16 I've packed up all of my previous season's clothes and sent them to charity [i buy new clothes every summer / winter).. 5 years i've been doing this It really does make you feel .. i guess the only words I can find are sympathetic and helpful

i really would love to help this year, but right now I'm saving money because I'm not going to be working while I'm in school, and my parents don't cover everything.

Mhmm, I send all of my old stuff (I throw out a lot of clothes) to my ex girlfriends mum. She regularly visits Freetown, Sierria Leone to donate items personally.

I bring everything to goodwill. Ever I cant pawn it, or use it, to Salvation and Goodwill it goes.
