Guest activation Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 I recently upgraded (maybe more like made a lateral move) video cards from an 8800GT to a radeon 4850 after the 8800 burned out. I uninstalled all of the nvidia drivers, installed the radeon, and installed its drivers and made sure I had the most recent, etc. I go to enter continuum and select 1400 x 900 resolution, my monitor's native resolution, and enter the game. I get 800x600. I go to advanced options and click show default resolutions then retry, 800x600 still. I try my profiles at various resolutions and set to default, 800x600 every time. My desktop has no problems at 1400 x 900, and all my other games (tf2, l4d2, cod4) play at the correct resolution. Any other suggestions? Is there a way to edit a .cfg file or something to make the normal 1400 x 900? By the way, I'm using windows 7 64bit, but i had that before with both my 8800 and my integrated graphics once the 8800 burned out and both played the game at the desired resolution.
Guest activation Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 let me add that i've tried moving it to my documents / places outside of program files, changed authorizations and all that to no avail. like i said, it worked on windows 7 before, it's just started to not behave since i put in my new video card.
Incomplete Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 This may sound stupid but are you playing it windowed?
Samapico Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Windowed should work just as fine... what would your point be, Inc?Though it's worth it to try both modes I guess
L.C. Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 8800 burned outCan I have your 8800? I'm being serious. I'll even pay for the shipping.
activation Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 ahha, i'm actually going to try to repair the 8800 by doing that oven trick, but it you'd want to buy it for $40 and shipping after that if it works... we could arrange a deal and no, the same thing happens in windowed mode.

JoWie Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 800x600 could be a compatibility mode. Probably a long shot tho
activation Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 800x600 could be a compatibility mode. Probably a long shot tho could you elaborate? I have tried to run it in compatibility mode for XP SP2 and ran it as administrator too if that's what you mean. Both did nothing.
L.C. Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 View --> Advanced Options --> Toggle or play with the "Show Default Resolutions" option at the bottom

Putting a video card in the oven could fix it? wuuut? I've heard about hard drives in the freezer, and that did make some sense, with the heads shrinking and possibly unjamming... but video card + oven?

I've heard about hard drives in the freezer, and that did make some sense, with the heads shrinking and possibly unjamming... but video card + oven?http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1421792&highlight=oven+baking There is a possibility that with some dead or fried video cards that the internal soldering and channels break connection, and the simple solution so that would be reforming the channels and internal soldering to reconnect broken points. Conventional ovens are strong enough to gently fix this problem without causing damage to other parts of the card; a bake session should last between 7 to 11 minutes. Read the HardForum thread. activation Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 (edited) ok lets get back on subject i tried to reinstall the drivers which didn't help at all. and I already said i played around with default resolutions. it will auto adjust on my monitor but it will still come out to be the same size. edit: oh, and the actual limit it wont go past is 1024 x 728... i wasn't looking before. this is bearable to play in i guess, but i'd much rather play on 1400, especially since i have before. Samapico Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 The 'show default resolutions' checkbox doesn't make the game run with your desktop resolution... it just limits the number of available resolutions in the Resolution menu. If it won't show your 1440x900 res, ... I know there's a FAQ item about this, you might want to check it out.
Incomplete Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Windowed should work just as fine... what would your point be, Inc?Though it's worth it to try both modes I guess Well I sort of remember that whenever I switched to windowed it wouldn't select a higher resolution liek when im playing non windowed. Was just a long shot I guess.

I know there's a FAQ item about this, you might want to check it out. i'm well aware of this, but this isnt the problem i have. all sorts of resolutions from 680 to 1400 are available for me to choose, it's just that no matter what I choose, it won't display beyond 1028 x 724 when i load it. in my profile.dat it is registering that I changed it to 1400 x 900, just when I start the game it doesn't have that resolution show up. and I just read the FAQ and tried every suggestion on there to no avail. it's only in this game that i've had problems with. Samapico Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 it's only in this game that i've had problems with. Yeah, I don't doubt that at all Continuum has these annoying and inconsistent bugs, and there's just about nothing we can do about it, except make a whole new client.
Incomplete Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Do the lower resolutions still come up as the same?
activation Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Do the lower resolutions still come up as the same? yes. but after 1280 x 1024 nothing happens unless i select a weird resolution and then it stays 1280 x 1024 but stretches out awkwardly cutting off the sides
rootbear75 Posted December 19, 2009 Report Posted December 19, 2009 (edited) Wasn't there some trick of like selecting 3 random "Advanced Options" features that would show it? Like: Avoid Page FlippingShow Bombsand Show Trails or something..... it think its in the FAQ EDIT: From FAQ:Solutions * Go to the Profile Editor from the main menu * On all of your profiles, set both 'Resolution' and 'Window' to ; Hit 'OK' * Click on the 'View' menu, then 'Advanced Options...' * Make sure 'Show Default Resolutions' is unchecked * See if it is fixed (You might need to quit and restart Continuum) * If not fixed, go back and check 'Show Default Resolutions' If this still does not fix your problem, another (weird) solution exists that may work in some cases: * Click on the 'View' menu, then 'Options...' * Select the 'Chat' tab * Set the 'Chat Window' option to 'Always Show' * Select the 'Graphics' tab * Uncheck 'Show Stars', 'Detailed Explosions' and 'Rolling Ship' Edited December 19, 2009 by rootbear75

rootbear75 Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 (edited) I found where the continuum registry settings are: HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Continuum take a poke around in there. EDIT: Take a look at: HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Continuum > State You will see ResolutionX and ResolutionY registry entries.Play with those to see if you can manually adjust the resolution. Mine say: * ResolutionX.....REG_DWORD.....0x00000500 (1280)* ResolutionY.....REG_DWORD.....0x00000320 (800) Play with the hex settings to see which resolution you want.
