Krusty Da Klown Posted December 14, 2009 Report Posted December 14, 2009 I have Windows XP installed on my MacBook Pro on a bootcamp partition. I downloaded Continuum 0.40, and installed it, but it will not run. It causes the system to work, but in Task Manager there are no processes running linked to Continuum. Is there something special I have to do to get it to run, or is it just not supported because it's originally a Mac OS install with a bootcamp partition? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Krusty Da Klown
Samapico Posted December 14, 2009 Report Posted December 14, 2009 I know some people successfully made Continuum run on Mac (probably through bootcamp as well)... I don't have a solution for you, but someone should be able to help you out soon.
»Lynx Posted December 14, 2009 Report Posted December 14, 2009 Continuum will run fine with Bootcamp, it's not on OS X/Apple error, and I am not sure what your particular error is (and can be handled like any other Continuum error on Windows) - if you would rather use OS X, you can load Windows into a virtual machine or you can install Wine onto your system to run Continuum natively (without Windows software) on OS X. To do this, you'll need to download and install Macports and using Terminal install the following packages: bisonfontforgefreetypeX11 You will then need to download wine from source. Once you've got that, run ./configure in and then patch the kernel32 file. I don't know how cmdlui savvy you are, if you have any trouble doing these things a step by step solution can be found here. Leave another post if you're not sure about anything.
»doc flabby Posted December 14, 2009 Report Posted December 14, 2009 Theres no reason it shouldn't be any different to a normal XP installation, it might be worth reviewing the FAQs. Also try running Continuum Directly from the location its installed at. You might need to turn off DEP.
Krusty Da Klown Posted December 16, 2009 Author Report Posted December 16, 2009 Alright, thank you all. I wasn't sure if bootcamp changed anything, but I'll go through all the FAQs and other help items to try and make it work. I'll be back if I can't get it to work, but again, thanks!
Krusty Da Klown Posted December 20, 2009 Author Report Posted December 20, 2009 Alright, after a little bit of tweaking, going through the FAQs, and uninstalling/reinstalling and tweaking again, I still cannot get the game to start up. Installation is fine, and all the files are where they are supposed to be. But, whenever I try to run the program, I still get the hourglass next to the pointer without any other results. I looked in the processes tab of the Task Manager, and I noticed an irregularity: there is one Continuum.exe process that stays in the list, but another Continuum.exe process will show up for a second and then disappear (essentially, there are 2 Continuum.exe processes at the same time, for about a second). In the applications tab of the Task Manager, nothing pops up still. I've tried turning off DEP, I've tried running in compatibility mode, and I have Continuum working on my PC with the same install of Windows XP and the same antivirus/firewall setting, and it works on the PC. I don't know what the problem is, but it is frustrating me now.. Any further ideas?
Hakaku Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 You can't actually turn off Windows DEP, you have to add Continuum to the exceptions list.
Krusty Da Klown Posted December 20, 2009 Author Report Posted December 20, 2009 Could this possibly be caused by incompatible hardware drivers? I'm not sure if it's at all similar, but I've also tried to install and run Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 on my computer, with no luck and similar problems while trying to run the program...
»Lynx Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 Grab your OS X installation disk, and load it into XP and install any hardware drivers on there. If that doesn't solve your problem, then it's not incompatible hardware drivers.
