Dr Brain Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Why do the three approved ones have improper grammar (first missing a period, second has an ellipsis before the question mark, third has the ellipsis and no question mark)? Also why do you say Play SubSpace and link to getcontinuum? Why not say Play Continuum? Call me OCD, but advertising should be held to a higher than average standard. Quote
L.C. Posted January 6, 2010 Author Report Posted January 6, 2010 (edited) Why do the three approved ones have improper grammar (first missing a period, second has an ellipsis before the question mark, third has the ellipsis and no question mark)? Also why do you say Play SubSpace and link to getcontinuum? Why not say Play Continuum? Call me OCD, but advertising should be held to a higher than average standard. The more advertisements we can come up with, the better because they will cover a broad range and variety of searches and improve page content targeting. Don't be afraid to suggest duplicates with minor variations (such as using one period at the end of a statement versus three periods). In fact, this is even encouraged by Google and those links to advertising tips I provided. There is nothing wrong with making a duplicate of the ones I just created and using "Continuum" instead of "SubSpace." I plan on making a batch of variations of all the current advertising groups later today. By the way, there is nothing wrong with being OCD. Having community input with ANY kind of suggestion and contribution automatically qualifies as a working idea for advertisements. EDIT: Figured out how to quickly create a gigantic batch of duplicates with minor changes. Cloned and made variations such as "SubSpace" "Subspace" "Continuum" "Get SubSpace!" "Get Subspace!" "Get Continuum!" "Play Subspace!" "Play SubSpace!" "Play Continuum!" "Subspace/Continuum" "SubSpace/Continuum" "Continuum/Subspace" "Continuum/SubSpace" ... I think it would be better if you saw the whole list yourself. Edited January 6, 2010 by L.C. Quote
»Xog Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Sorry but I'm going to have to go back a couple posts. I've got some important questions/suggestions. I'm afraid that bots are accessing the download links... Would it be possible for you to add a captcha image verification to download the installer? This would do three beneficial things: 1) Lowers bandwidth usage2) Help us get a more accurate reading on REAL downloads3) Display a more professional approach to the game to new players. Also, if what you say is true, then L.C. did indeed set up the "Goals" incorrectly (THIS IS A GOOD THING). Google was displaying that the client was never reached/downloaded but your information contradicts that information. *whipes brow* Thanks Quote
L.C. Posted January 6, 2010 Author Report Posted January 6, 2010 recaptchaHmm, well, think about it: if a reCaptcha was added to download the client -- this would only be for marketing purposes by the way -- how many potential players would this fend off? (Simply because they had to try and pass a verification they are human.) I mean, sure, it is rather easy to pass a reCaptcha, but still? :? By the way, spiders and bots generally do not download whole clients (but I might be wrong). Quote
»Xog Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I've never been bothered by them. I don't know anyone else's experience, but I think they're rather easy to see. It's just a few letters to type then bam. Quote
Dr Brain Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I'm always annoyed by them, and more often than not I just leave the page. Statistics aren't important enough to drive players away over. Quote
»Xog Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Question; does the adwords also apply to android phones as well? I've seen ad supported apps that use google so I was wondering if it applies. http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/2623/43904851.jpg Quote
rootbear75 Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 No I meant does the ads go into adsupported application. That just says someone was browsing the web using their phone and came across the ad. Quote

L.C. Posted January 7, 2010 Author Report Posted January 7, 2010 Bleh, it did a daily budget of $17.50 for an extra day. Apparently changes occur 24 hours after making them. Quote
L.C. Posted January 8, 2010 Author Report Posted January 8, 2010 lol. Setting the Max Search CPC might have been a bad idea. Google screwed this one up. It used $34.17 on 1/7/2010, even though the daily budget was set to $3.50/day. On the other hand, these clicks might be more meaningful, and average position went up I think. Quote

I think there's a setting somewhere that's not set correctly, or there's something about this that we just don't understand. The daily budget has been exceeded in the past - albeit only by a few tens of cents, regardless, the limit doesn't stop the ads from going over the daily budget. I think you should contact support and tell them what happened, and hopefully get reimburst? You did set the daily budget to 3.50/day but you ALSO made the CPC 3.50. (wouldn't that result in only one click?) Regardless of those two settings it shouldn't have gone over the budget. *Also I'd like to note, you set daily budget to $3.50 and it stopped at $34.17 - possible that you made a typo and put 35.00? L.C. Posted January 11, 2010 Author Report Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) k I think I made a mistake in calculations and understanding. If I go to the Billing Summary page, it is split into two sections: one that totals to $50.19 and the other that totals to $36.76.Hello Joshua, Thank you for your email. I hope you're doing good. I understand you'reconcern about being charged more than your daily budget on certain days. Please be assured that you have reached the correct team that deals withsuch issues. I reviewed your account and found that on January 6th yourcampaign received clicks worth $18.75, however, you were charged $4.20. OnJanuary 7th you received clicks worth $34.17, however, you charged $2.80. Please know that this can sometime occur when your account accrues clicksvery quickly due to fluctuations in user traffic. As you know, Google mayallow up to 20% more clicks in a day than your daily budget specifies.Over a given billing period, however, you'll never be charged more thanyour daily budget allows. Our system makes sure that in a given billingperiod, you're never charged more than the number of days in that billingperiod times your daily budget. For example, if you budget US$ 10 per day,and you're charged for a 30-day billing period, the maximum you would payis US $300. However, like in this case, as Google overdelivered your ads too much, youwere not charged for the clicks that were in excess of your 30 daysbudget. A credit was automatically applied to your account. To you're overdelivery credits on the 6th and 7th: 1. Sign in to your AdWords account at https://adwords.google.com .2. Select the Billing tab.3. Click Campaign Activity link for the days in question. Any credit forexcess activity will be labeled Overdelivery credit. I hope this information was helpful to you. Please feel free to write meif you have any additional questions or concerns. If you have additional questions, please visit our Help Center athttp://adwords.google.com/support/aw/, where you'll find answers to manyfrequently asked questions. We look forward to providing you with the mosteffective advertising available. Dav Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 I think it may be a good idea to use these stats to refine the ads. It is clear that some are more effective then others. Quote
Samapico Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Some could put emphasis on the 'completely free' aspectMost games advertised say they are free, but then you have to pay if you want to have a chance of being good (thinking about these crappy browser games, mostly) Quote
Dav Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 We could also boast the fact that we are 100% player run as well. I think a lot of the "player run" games just have mods that get a free account or something. Quote
