On getcontinuum.com, the following:

[...]

Should be replaced with:

<div id="download-button"><a href="/downloads/continuum/Continuum040Setup.exe" onClick="javascript: pageTracker._trackPageview('/GameDownloaded'); "><span>Download Continuum 0.40</span></a></div>

Is this still needed to be done?

If yes, is the piece of code above exactly correct and exactly as how you want it to be? (Just asking to make sure it's not a piece of code only as an example.)

If yes again, I can modify the code this evening.

According to Google, that's exactly what it should say.

Yup. What it will do when people click on it (as far as how Analytics will track it) is count it as a page view to "/GameDownloaded". Although the Goals functionality in Analytics should be tracking for us, apparently Goals functions in Analytics are broken or something. I believe they are broken or the goals incorrectly setup (I am out of ideas for how to do it right), seeing as how it has not tracked one click to Continuum040Setup.exe, even through the reddit traffic spike.

All done.

Well I don't see how Google Analytics can track a download of a file without the code snippit you showed me. Without it, there is nothing between the client and the apache server to track the download as far as I can see. Maybe the included Analytics javascript file has the ability to track it that's not working properly though.

A few days ago I had encountered one of the ads (was purposely trying to get one lol), clicked on it and then clicked on the download. The next day I went into Analytics and it showed 0.

I hope to try this out again tonight, between 6-10 and check analytics tomorrow 8)

I have to say so far I like google analytics... it doesn't seem to record page views from Bots that die, nor looking at it bots period. Compared its stats to server ones, and found the difference between the 2 was normally about equal to the # of visits and views bots had made. Not always which still has me confused on 1 day there is like a 200 visitors difference, but typically seems to be the normal. Also doesn't record everytime someone refreshes a topic and crap, so instead of 1,500,000+ hits, shows the real amount.

@xog:why click on the ads? you're just wasting the funds.

it was my money anyway blum.gif

@Xog: sorry couldn't do it tonight kinda trashed -- just got home from lounge. some girls bday party or someshit

Donation from Xog of $30 received on 1/21/2010.

Yesterday I also went through the advertisement settings and set it so that it would only advertise for English users, and within major countries only. I also increased bid percents by up to 15% for certain kinds of clicks.

EDIT: And as of right now (time of posting), Analytics shows that /GameDownloaded has been hit 29 times (aka 29 clicks on Continuum040Setup.exe download button). 27 out of 29 are unique, and average "page time" is 2:38 minutes (sounds to me like they waited for it to finish downloading!).

15 of those 29 people spent an average of 5:24 minutes downloading it -- these people came through Google. 5 of the 29 people already knew the address getcontinuum.com somehow and spent an average time of 1:16 minutes supposedly downloading Continuum040Setup.exe.

I think at least 3 of the 29 came from the advertisements. The rest simply Googled it (plus any exception already noted). 3 of the 29 were returning visitors. 22 of 29 were from North America, the rest from Europe; 3 from Northern Europe, 1 from Southern Europe, and 1 from Western Europe.

19 of 29 came from the United States; 3 from Canada, 2 from UK, 1 from Estonia, 1 from Netherlands, and 1 from Spain.

4 from Florida, 2 from England, 2 from Tennessee, 3 from Texas, 2 from Alberta, 2 from Massachusetts, 1 from unknown, 1 from Washington DC, 1 from Indiana, 1 from Maine, 1 from New York, 1 from North Carolina, 1 from Ontario, 1 from Oregon, 1 from Pennsylvania, 1 from Valencia, 1 from Wisconsin, and 1 from Zuid-Holland.

25 cities to list, so I won't specify them. Get Analytics access instead.

14 were using Firefox, 10 were using Internet Explorer, and 3 were using Chrome.

17 have Cable, 6 have DSL, 2 have T1, 2 have Unknown.

Roughly 19 different ISPs to list, so I won't list them. Ask for Analytics access instead.

Source: Click on /GameDownloaded on front page and use the drop down field to the right of "/GameDownloaded" drop down field to find these statistics. (For those that have Analytics access.)

since when?

I had to download the game twice earlier in the month when reinstalling on my new PC. I really hope I am not both UK downloads :s

Posted (edited)

Since the last 24 hours.

EDIT: And I count unique visitors/hits/page views only. (So more than likely, if you downloaded the game within the last 24 hours, you are only 1 of the 2 UK downloads.)

You know, it's very simple to donate to the fund. All you need to do is sign in to PayPal (free, by the way), and click Send Money, and put in the email subspace@hlrse.net along with the amount of money you want to send. It will then ask you which card you want to send the money from .. that's all you have to do!

I think we should start doing an AdSense thing on getcontinuum or ssforum so we can start making some advertisement money, that I do.

Because of adding a few sets of image advertisements, our CTR has doubled reaching 0.51% and our daily budget maxing out at $4.20/3.50.

Three advertisements stick out in particular (numbers 10, 18, 19) with CTRs of 1.72%, 1.27%, and 4.60% respectively. Number 19 (the highest CTR) has two keywords that too-low of a bid to make it to front-page (for whatever website); minimum bid for one keyword is $0.80 and the other is like $2.37. All advertisements have keyword bids of $0.25.

Something i'll post in here, too. You'll notice an increase from November to December. The majority of games were declining for a few months, and once the ads started, in November, they've almost all increased. It's still possible this was just a coincidence though.

oh WOW trench wars.... why not put in PUBLIC stats instead of using arena specific stats....

Show an ALL zones graph instead.

Because it wasn't created yet. I recently requested for someone (Arobas+ or otherwise) to make it, and I'm waiting for a response. No need to sound like an ass, I'm just working with what I have.
