Gravitron Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 (edited) [daydream rant] It's very infuriating for me to watch all those efforts put to waste due to people and their power-mongering/control-issues.If even just one of these coders who come all gung-ho and excitement, and really put commitment and contribute, and is then made all bummed out and drop away was really a good programmer...sigh...could've had my cool game made already with one of these guys. Yet, they come, waste time on a dead game that people just drop out of and are pissed off at its management, and then fade away like the game and its population out of anger and mis-communication.If only instead they would've come to play with me... Dr Brain Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 2% of the game is about inter-zone relations, which the SSC regulates. If the programmers can't find something to do with the other 98%, then they're really not trying. Quote
Gravitron Posted November 29, 2009 Author Report Posted November 29, 2009 Reality proves you wrong. Quote
Dr Brain Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 How so? For every whining quitter on the forums, there are 10 more actually doing something useful. Quote
Gravitron Posted November 29, 2009 Author Report Posted November 29, 2009 (edited) When did forum users come onto the equation? Fact is that there have been coders who worked, put out produce - which is more than just trying, and then due to the inability of personal relationships between them, willing consumers and the council to resolve productively they've picked up and left and nothing got accomplished further in that venue since. This has occurred multiple times, therefore, a pattern is established. Edited November 29, 2009 by Ori Klein Quote
Corey Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 See, the thing is that these "programers" you speak of, already do alot for subspace. Even though they are in uni or college. So dont go around saying that they should be programing for another game, for most people this game is a hobby. Yes, programmers too. You are lucky there even still is a subspace. If you dont like it, learn to progam, or leave. Quote
Dr Brain Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 I'm not denying that it happens. I'm denying that it's a significant percentage of the community's programmers. Quote
Gravitron Posted November 29, 2009 Author Report Posted November 29, 2009 Of course it's a minor PERCENTAGE. Sadly, it's the percentage which actually get things done, so while it is not a significant in QUANTITY it is significant in QUALITY.Not to rain on your "I made modules which expanded my zone's functionality" parade, cool and all, but it's not a new client, new server, new biller, new community, new SubSpace. It's beating up against the same walls which restrict in the first place, trying to nudge another milimeter in. L.C. Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 It's beating up against the same walls which restrict in the first place, trying to nudge another milimeter in.Do level 4 bombs work? Or do we need to make that level 5 hyperatomic? Quote
Bak Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 It's very infuriating for me to watch all those efforts put to waste due to people and their power-mongering/control-issues. It's really easy not to get people to be mad at you, just (1) don't tell them what to do, and (2) don't steal their work. As in life, don't expect people will help you; expect to never get SSC access or that your zone will not be that much fun without significant changes and work. Then, if something does go your way, it's seen as a bonus, rather than everything that doesn't go your way being seen as a negative. If you make a truly better product, at least in the subspace community, people will use it. Quote
