»1587200 Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 I'm gonna fire up the SSRadio again. I enjoy online radio stations, and I think this community (or what's left of it) would enjoy it too. Heck, it might even bring in some new users. I'm looking for DJ's. I've decided that going the whole zone-dj-rep route is pointless, so I'm just looking for people who have an interest and a working knowledge of being an online DJ. For now I only want people who have DJ'ed in the past and know what it's like and what to expect. After I get a group of dedicated knowledgeable DJ's together, I'll start setting up and teaching new people who have not DJ'ed but want to learn. Requirements are:DedicationSAM Broadcaster (can be provided if need be)Previous online DJ experienceMicrophoneSkype (will be used to do on-air interviews and talk shows)Not afraid to talkAbility to speak coherent EnglishCable+ internet connectionInterested? Here's what I need in PM:How many hours a week can you dedicate to DJ'ing?Would you be interested in teaching/training new DJ's?How extensive is your mp3 collection, and what genere would you typically broadcast? (Note, FLAC does not play nicely with SAM)Are you interested in conducting on-air interviews and talk shows?FAQQ: Why is SAM Broadcaster required?A: Because it's easier to work with and newbie friendly. It's also easy to route Skype calls into SAM and out to the shoutcast server via Virtual Audio Cable (VAC). Q: What's with the on-air interviews and talk shows?A: I want to take Polix's idea of 20 questions one step further and conduct on-air interviews for people to tune in to. I also want to start creating talk shows (about anything) that will also get users to tune in. The aim is to make SSRadio more of a radio station and something people want to listen to, and not just someone streaming trance 24/7. Q: What about zone supremacy and all that political mumbo-jumbo?A: I want SSRadio and it's DJ's to remain as unbiased as possible. DJ's will still have the freedom to plug their favorite zone(s) but the main focus is community. However, game politics will be allowed to be discussed on-air if a DJ would like (within reason, ie, actual discussions and debates.) If there are any questions, suggestions, comments, whatever, feel free to post them here. Quote
rootbear75 Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 since im unemployed right now, i could commit a few hours a day preferably in the evening-night time.however i dont have any previous DJ experience so when you want to start teaching newbies, ill be good.Note that i have no job until November 14th when I leave for cali, so if you want someone to start broadcasting stuff soon, i could do that. Delic Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 I've been hoping for something like this for awhile (hmm I think I said this last time around too). I hope this will be based on talk shows.. Maybe reports on league matches fromdifferent zones? (like what TW had with Trench Center, but SubSpace-wide!) Based on my experience, I can say that it's very hard to please listeners whenit comes to music since people have very different tastes and preferences, andare very vocal about their own. With talk shows it's more universal and interesting, specially if there's culturalvariety between the hosts (it's always fun to throw in a random Finn; the Finnishaccent never fails to amuse!) I hope this takes off this time! Quote
Testtube Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Larry why have you forsaken me! Quote
»Lynx Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 I'd be willing to join up with the spare time I've got... But you're demanding SAM for some unknown reason... Quote

»Lynx Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 That's the unknown reason... SAM isn't any easier to use than any other platform independent internet radio broadcaster, just because the only broadcaster you feel comfortable with is SAM isn't a reason why you should cripple everybody else down to your low standards. Secondly, having any rules or regulations on something which has been tried *so* many times and has failed *so* many times is absurd, either set up your own server and let certain people connect to that and hope it succeeds, or let anybody host via their own computers and let the audience decide whether they want to continue listening. The simple fact is that with your system that you're proposing you have literally no control over your DJs, setting up rules that are impossible to enforce will only cause e-arguments, and most probably will lead to your whole idea falling down on it's self. Either way, try as you like. The e-drama of these radio stations is usually quite entertaining. Quote
»1587200 Posted November 5, 2009 Author Report Posted November 5, 2009 Thanks for completely tearing down the idea and dismantling a project that you have no part in, and obviously don't want to take part in (despite your previous post). I hope your e-peen feels better now. I'm requiring it because yes, it is easier for me to use, and teach people how to do things like route calls from skype to the stream via SAM. And yes, I believe it is easier to use than most full featured broadcasters, which allows me to help out DJ's who may not know everything about SAM, as opposed to trying to help them out while they use their own broadcasting tool that I've never used before. It's much easier to work as a DJ team when you're all using the same software as opposed to everyone using different software. Secondly, as stated before, the requirements help us work better as a team, and allow us to trouble shoot any issues. And contrary to your opinion, I believe this allows me to have more control over the DJ's (ex DJ A can't get his SQL server to link to SAM. This is an issue we can fix quicker and easier than if DJ A was using Program XYZ and couldn't connect to the server, no one knows anything about Program XYZ.) Not to mention SAM is the industry standard in most small/medium/large online radio stations. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that it's some evil program. And the radio has only been started twice to my knowledge; once by me (which failed to to insufficient funds) and once by Chambahs (don't know why it went down.) If that constitutes "so many times" then I don't know what to tell you, other than I'm sorry you dream small. I'm starting an online radio station. If it fails, it fails. I'm not in this to make some big name for myself, or money, or anything. I want to do it because it's fun. So to all you nay-sayers out there who feel compelled to tell me how much it's going to fail, or how bad of an idea it is, just keep your douche bag comments to yourself. If you're not going to participate in this, then please, stfu. Quote
»Lynx Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 No, the point being is that I would want to take part (and have DJ experience), however as you've made it a requirement that SAM be used I can't take part, and neither can anybody else who is using an operating system other than Windows. Good luck with your project, I look forward to actually hearing a successful show - although I won't be holding my breath. Quote
