rootbear75 Posted November 1, 2009 Author Report Posted November 1, 2009 k so heres what im going to do: I decided just to install XP over my old original hard drive, then install the drivers that way.
rootbear75 Posted November 3, 2009 Author Report Posted November 3, 2009 New problem: XP setup STILL will not recognize a hard drive inserted into the computer. However, i did find out that the hard drive that crashed (the one i was using, new one) is recognizable if I have it in a hard drive enclosure. Also: Wireless radio does not turn on anymore either. Taking it in for service, because im out of ideas. Any ideas, let me know.
JoWie Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 (edited) If it is a SATA harddrive, windows XP will not recognize it without drivers. If you want to install XP onto a SATA harddrive you either need a floppy(only a floppy) with the drivers on it, or you need to slipstream the drivers onto the XP cd, or you enable IDE emulation in your BIOS. Vista and Windows 7 have the correct SATA drivers built in most of the time. Edited November 5, 2009 by JoWie
rootbear75 Posted November 5, 2009 Author Report Posted November 5, 2009 yes BUT... it worked before. I installed XP onto the NEW hard drive a long time ago. That crashed, which is why i came on here needing help. Now it's not recognizing either of the drives (the old one or new one)
JoWie Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Are you using the same CD? Stuff like OEM restore CDs have the driver built in
rootbear75 Posted November 5, 2009 Author Report Posted November 5, 2009 yes, the same CD as i installed on the New hard drive now wont recognize the drive... Dont tell me that i need another CD. There should be no reason why a CD that worked, now all of a sudden can't recognize a drive.

Problem now is the wi-fi radio refuses to turn on... trying to see if its because of the lack of drivers....
rootbear75 Posted November 11, 2009 Author Report Posted November 11, 2009 (edited) Ok guys... Laptop finally works... I got internet access through my ethernet card so at least im not completely shut down. I CAN NOT get the wireless radio to turn on, so if anyone can help me with that, i'd appreciate it. Or if you'd rather me start a new topic.... otherwise you can close this topic.... [ CLOSED / SOLVED ] Edited November 11, 2009 by rootbear75
