»Blocks Posted October 18, 2009 Report Posted October 18, 2009 (edited) Just built it a few days ago. This is huge for me, because up until now I've been using an old AMD Athlon 64 4000+ laptop that ran at 70 degC constant. First time I built a completely new computer without using any old parts, so I had to share. Case:Rosewill R101-P-BK mATX Computer Case with 120mm Fan Power Supply:Corsair CMPSP-400CX 400W ATX12V V2.2 80 Plus Certified Motherboard:Gigabyte GA-MA785GPMT-UD2H Socket AM3 / AMD 785G mATX Motherboard Processor:AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Callisto 3.1GHz 6 MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 80W Dual Core (unlocked to quad core) Cooling:OCZ Vendetta Aluminum & Copper Intel/AMD CPU Cooler Memory:OCZ OCZ3P1333LV4GK 4GB PC3-10666 (DDR3-1333) CA7 Dual Channel Memory Hard Drive:Seagate ST3500418AS Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA II 7200 RPM 16MB Buffer Optical Drive:Samsung SH-S223L 22x SATA DVD Burner Drive Black Graphics Card:MSI R4350-MD512H 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card Total cost shipped was $399.19 after tax, cashback, and rebates. It's pretty zippy by my standards. I'm running triple 21.5" 1080p monitors on it. Edited December 20, 2009 by Blocks Quote
rootbear75 Posted October 18, 2009 Report Posted October 18, 2009 didnt we already have one of these "What's your Rig Spec" topics before? Where did it go? Quote
»Blocks Posted October 19, 2009 Author Report Posted October 19, 2009 (edited) Short: Need pictured item, but for front of computer. Long: On the odd chance that anybody reads this topic and wants to help me complete my computer, here's a request. My motherboard has serial and parallel port headers. I would like to use these. There are brackets that connect the headers to ports at the back of the computer (pictured below). I will end up buying this if need be, but I'd like something for the front of the computer, either in a 3.5" or 5.25" drive bay. I've searched the internets far and wide, but the closest thing I've come up with is this front panel system. For some reason, they have serial ports but not parallel ports. Anyway, if you're bored, help me out. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m222/legoblocks/misc/HDW006117.jpg Edited October 19, 2009 by Blocks Quote
rootbear75 Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 why not cut your own out of plastic then use the cables from that and do a little glueing? Quote
»Blocks Posted October 20, 2009 Author Report Posted October 20, 2009 why not cut your own out of plastic then use the cables from that and do a little glueing?I'm lazy and it's actually kind of difficult to machine cheap plastic. I'd only have one shot using the panels from the front of my case. Quote
Samapico Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 The FrontX dudes even have a game port thing... I wonder if a parallel could fit in their large bay. You could also hit the feedback/suggest product link at the bottom of their page and ask them if they have that Might I ask why you need a parallel port? Isn't there some kind of adapter you could use to get a smaller connector? Quote

I question why they didn't just develop it with their initial production runs, but meh. Might I ask why you need a parallel port? Isn't there some kind of adapter you could use to get a smaller connector?I've run into lots of hardware programmers and debuggers (okay, maybe three) that use a parallel interface. Also it would be easy to implement on any custom interface. I've had good luck with USB serial dongles, but bad luck with USB parallel solutions -- since I have the hardware on my motherboard, I figure it's easier/cheaper to just use it. I'll probably end up buying the pictured item and then just run cables from there. Edited October 20, 2009 by Blocks Quote
PoLiX Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 for the price, can't beat it. Nice build dude. Quote
»Blocks Posted October 26, 2009 Author Report Posted October 26, 2009 Thanks. I wish I had reasons to build more computers, because the whole process is pretty fun. Quote
Samapico Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 I wish I had MONEY to build computers, cause yeah, it's pretty fun Never built an entire one, but I bought several parts for various comps. Next time for upgrade I'll probably just get a motherboard/CPU (and a case if the mobo doesn't fit in my micro case )At that point there won't be much stock parts left in this thing Quote
