http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/the-demise-of-the-dollar-1798175.html

Iran announced late last month that its foreign currency reserves would henceforth be held in euros rather than dollars. Bankers remember, of course, what happened to the last Middle East oil producer to sell its oil in euros rather than dollars. A few months after Saddam Hussein trumpeted his decision, the Americans and British invaded Iraq.

Shift your paradigms a bit. It was Hussein's decision to change the currency. He probably made that decision in an effort to get European support.

Also, there is a reality that in a very general sense most Middle Eastern oil goes to Europe, while the US gets most of our oil from the western hemisphere.

I don't want to rubbish your view Aileron but here is a more recent action of U.S. bullying.

Iran dumps dollar for Euro:

Iran suddenly has concealed an enrichment facility

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8274903.stm

Look at the dates on the articles.

It since emerged that Iran hadn't concealed anything and were the ones telling the world about this facility; in fact they were telling the IAEA about it a year sooner than they needed to by international law.

It was probably another effort by America to use the media to garner support for military action, or simply to remind Iran "don't piss us off". Completely illegal action by America again, but it's hard to prosecute!

All the date proves is that there is temporal correlation. That is correct. There *is* a reason that they are occurring at the same time. What I am talking about is causation.

The US is trying to push Europe to place tougher sanctions on Iran

causes

Iran tries to get European support by switching to the Euro.

Now, the switch in currency occurs two days before the enrichment facility is revealed publicly. But, keep in mind that there is a public world and a private world in politics. Most likely, all parties concerned knew that everyone else knew about this enrichment facility weeks before. The announcement merely brought the debate into the public theater. Iran used the switch to prep the public theater in their favor. In turn, while publicly this is about Iran's nuclear facilities, in reality Obama probably is trying to use it to get European troops for Afghanistan.

I mean, the problem with your argument is that US relations with Iran have been sour for years and for many reasons. In the big scheme of things this is a drop in the bucket.

Iran looks more like the innocent party to me. They can use whatever currency they wish, and it's probably fairer to use a currency(s) that benefits more countries. They have also done nothing wrong with their new enrichment facility, and haven't enriched any weapons grade material whatsoever. They are complying with the IAEA and are innocent.

America on the other hand threatens, bullies, spreads propaganda, and seeks to legitimise it by relying on their power over everyone else. To be honest I don't know how much of this comes from the government or just from the right-wing media in America. We all know that Murdoch would do the propaganda side of things regardless of who is President, and how much political power he has I don't know.

I hope Obama will repair ties with Iran/Cuba/Venezuela/Russia in the way he has promised.

Yes, Iran the sweet, humble, and innocent EFP and Suicide Vest manufacturer is always portrayed as evil by the big bad western hate machine. I mean come on! Obama is in charge now - you can't ask for someone to be more of a dove than him and he's still pushing for sanctions. Why? Because Iran is a threat even Obama can't ignore.

Nothing wrong with a secret underground uranium enrichment facility? What part of 'secret' and 'underground' implies an open-book policy with the international community?

Iran makes thinks that KILL the soldiers who secure YOUR right to write like an idiot and you think they are your MISUNDERSTOOD FRIENDS. I've reached the point where I can do nothing more than to offer you a glass of Kool-Aid.

Hah Aileron whenever I argue with you I tend to be arguing against whatever right-wing media source you choose to read, or whatever left or impartial source you choose to ignore.

What was secret about it?

Iran told the IAEA about their facility a long time before they needed to.

"there were no international requirements to declare any nuclear facility until 180 days before fissile material was introduced into it."

Oh... so this is like Jesus. I didn't ask him to die for my sins, I didn't ask God to send Jesus to die for my sins, and I didn't need him to die for my sins.

Aileron, if a government you disagree with sends people to their deaths whilst telling you that they are doing it to protect you, then that makes them right? You suddenly have to agree with them do you? You suddenly have to believe the soldiers are dying for a real purpose do you?... Even if it's more painful to believe they are not dying for a purpose.

LOL, you're straight out of South Park.

One could say the converse about you (except that there's no such thing as impartiality). And how is that a valid argument, exactly? Because most people in the country believe it, it must be true/false?

It's not an argument, it's an expression of how I feel when I argue with Aileron.

If you have something constructive to say about the rest of my post on the other hand, then I would welcome it.

Look, its been fun, but I've got to cut this conversation off at this point. I keep having to double check what information has been cleared for public release and what hasn't. I haven't said anything that wasn't public yet, but its probably best if I don't talk this subject at all. Edited by Aileron
