Kilo Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 How would it be a duel league if people spam reps, bursts, and thors? How wouldn't it be? HS isn't other zones but I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be the first zone to allow items in this kind of game. Actually I said that wrong, I meant "wouldn't be the first to not disallow for no reason." They're part of the game. Bursts are probably the least lame of those three because you'd have to be an idiot to get caught by one in duel-space. Thors are anti-run mechanisms, good stuff. Repels are limited, so whoopydoo. Has anyone said mines should be illegal yet? Lolol. Come on, guys. Let's outlaw prox bombs too, and shredder. And cluster bomb.Heck let's just not let there be any customization at all.Heck let's make everyone play the same ship.. screw warbirds, everyone in stock javs gogo. Then with some minor adjustments to stock jav we can be just like TW! WhiskeyTango Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 Seeing as how I cant alter the other post.. Ill do it here... I withdraw from the league unless its necessary to make it run, which considering the amount of sign-ups, I doubt... There's no way to compete with most these ppl for me.. If I'm chosen for some odd reason, guess I'll find out about it... Y'all have fun... Quote
vetta64 Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 Whiskey, you had plenty of chance to win since I didnt get my app in on time. Guess we can sit out together Quote
WhiskeyTango Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 lol once I looked at the list, I figured I was gonna be the fat kid in dodgeball anyhow... Ill still play if picked... If for nothing else, least I can add my 2 pew's worth... xD Quote
omni Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 Yes HS isn't like other zones, but no matter how dissimilar two zones are, they all have structured rules for dueling, that does not change. In fact, this spans beyond even just continuum. If you are familiar with any MMORPG with a dueling system you'll know there are structured rules, all of them mostly similar. In each, there are certain do's and don'ts. In this case, dueling with items in continuum is generally a don't. Either way I won't bother to argue over this anymore since d1st0rt said he might have a way to get rid of items in the duel league. Also Arnk, people have tried to vouch for removal of mines, and even prox bombs. Why do you think Masaru's last tourney consisted of both a prox and nonprox competition? Yes thors are an anti run mechanism, but running is also a part of dueling. There is a certain skill involved in that. You're shaving away the skills needed for dueling. Reps and ports make it so dodging is less important, thors make it so running is pointless, bursts allow you to hide in small areas to regain energy rather than actually defending yourself. Just because HS is unique in that there are customizable ships doesn't mean you can't follow the dueling structure of other zones. There were made like that for a reason, so that a duel tourney actually determines a winner based on their dueling skill, and nothing else. Quote
»D1st0rt Posted December 12, 2009 Author Report Posted December 12, 2009 There is a difference between ship control/aim/energy management and tactical item usage, both of which could be considered "dueling skill". Its just harder to find a setup that keeps one from overpowering the other. Quote
Kilo Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 There are only two skills needed in dueling: Ability to win, and ability to not lose. Beyond that it's irrelevant. Your constant insistence that the game be changed shows your own weakness of adaptation. You've even gone so far as to suggest in the past that walls are a hindrance to a real duel. Clearly they are for you, but the best players are not limited by this or anything else. The game may be more press button to win than you'd like (note: I don't necessarily like it either), but everyone is aware of the capabilities of everything, so only a loser would not be prepared to face everything and take advantage of the strategies employed. Emit Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 hi if u gud u can b gud wid itemz 2 goes both wayz suckas Quote
Acer Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 Imo, it will make this draft interesting, also would give the complete noobs (me) even greater chance of doing better since there are items. Expect the unexpected. Quote
Unix Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 If it were a 1v1 duel, I would completely agree with omni, but since it's a 4v4 style league I dont see why it shouldnt be allowed. A lot of times specials are used to combat the tactics that are unique to 4v4 rather than a duel, in a 1v1 you dont have to worry about random bombs or other opposing players coming at you at full speed. New Balance Posted December 13, 2009 Report Posted December 13, 2009 i would like to sign up for draft dueling league! is it too late? Quote
Unix Posted December 13, 2009 Report Posted December 13, 2009 dello and smokebud2 signed up and werent picked since they werent on the updated list. Are they going to be on the supplemental draft list at lest? Quote
omni Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Would it be possible to give captains temporary ref powers just in league arena? It's a lot easier to set up practice matches without having some newb jumping in every few minutes. This way we can scorereset and stuff too. Quote
Choose Profile Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 (edited) I don't see how giving captains temp powers in the league arena would be a problem, unless it's physically just not capable to give them temporary powers in one arena, which I have no idea of. I also don't see how specials will be that big of a problem. They add an extra dimension to the duels which we're all familiar with in public settings anyways. Sure, the 1v1 "unofficial" rules have taken root in the would-be dueling community of HS, but that preferred method of single person duels shouldn't have a bearing in league duels. Staff also isn't capable of making the changes necessary to ensure fair play in regards to item usage, and seeing as how every single person who will be dueling has specials on their duel ships anyways, they should be allowed. If every captain elects to not use specials and they can enforce their players to also not use specials, then that's fine with me, but expecting HS staff to get involved is a bit silly. I'm glad to see you guys are passionate about this league and it's potential success, but angrily ranting on these forums about it will not change the fact that staff isn't really going to have a hand in this particular matter. If all the captains can come to an agreement, then sure, let's all elect to not use specials. If this does turn out to be the case, there needs to be a.) punishment for those who do use items, if even on accident, and b.) expectations that not everyone will be caught by a ref(s) using items, and you'll just have to deal with it if it happens to occur to your disadvantage. -CP/El Diablo Edited December 17, 2009 by Choose Profile Quote

Unix Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 It's just pub ships, why would we change them? It's up to you if you wanna change your pub ship or not. Quote
