Bak Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 i heard testing a very boring position. You have to do things over and over again and write bug reports. Quote
»Lynx Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 And you're not exactly testing the awesome game as you or I play it, you're testing buggy irritating games and have to then write up test reports. If you've ever done a computer related subject, writing test reports will be familiar to you. I know I wouldn't want to be writing those up all day long. -L Quote
Drake7707 Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 Testing is one of the most tedious and annoying job to do in a development cycle. You have to create a whole series of different tests for something you didn't even make. Besides gaming as a job is a pretty lousy one, you don't learn anything and when you're laid off you're as helpless as someone who has no experience, yet they have to pay you more than them. Quote
Diwa Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 I did QA for Electronic Arts a long while ago. And I thought it was an AWESOME job. Besides playing the "same thing over and over again," we had a hand in setting Time-Trial times, scores for scored events, and stuff like that. And besides all that, we had a cafeteria where we could eat and get fat, ping-pong tables, pool tables and big screen tv's, A large soccer field where you could play soccer and volleyball, a basketball court where we held basketball leagues (competitive and casual), hockey leagues (comp. and casual). Yeah, you spend A LOT of time in a LARGE room with a bunch of other testers (the majority of which are male ) but you'll still manage to mingle with "the higher ups." (the QA were pretty much the bottom rung, but we had good times.) I played regular ping-pong and pool (9-ball) with one of the developers. I never managed to beat him though. He was freakin' good! LOL I only have fond memories of testing for EA (for the most part.) Though, the area of the games I tested, I was required to play the games from start to finish, so I wasn't stuck playing one part of the game over and over and over again like some of the testers were required to. That being said, I DOUBT that what was posted in the Original Post will be anything like my experience at EA. Quote
