A mexican state is apparently pissed off that it's own citizens are returning home... wait, what?

The state of Sonora is angry at the influx of Mexicans into Mexico. Nine state legislators from the state of Sonora traveled to Tucson to complain about Arizona's new employer crackdown on illegal immigrants from Mexico.

It seems that many illegal immigrants from Mexico are returning to their hometowns, and the officials in the Sonora state government are ticked off about it. A delegation of nine state legislators from Sonora was in Tucson recently to say Arizona's new employer sanctions law will have a devastating effect on the Mexican state. At a news conference the legislators said Sonora, Arizona's southern neighbor comprised mostly of small towns, cannot handle the demand for housing, jobs and schools it will face as Mexican workers here return to their country without jobs or money.

Just proves that the old "they are coming here and stealing our jobs" argument is utter nonsense really.

We have a similar thing here with many polish workers returning home.

The jobs are mostly still there for them, but the weakened currencies mean its just not work being abroad for them anymore.

Always makes me smile when the nationalist scum that circulate all the anti immigration lies get proven wrong thumbsup.gif

"The Arizona law, which took effect Jan. 1, punishes employers who knowingly hire individuals who don't have valid legal documents to work in the United States. Penalties include suspension or loss of business licenses. Because more companies are complying, illegal immigrants are finding it more difficult to find work, so they are going home.

How can they pass a law like this?" asked Mexican representative Leticia Amparano-Gomez, who represents Nogales."

Umm...whats wrong with that?

If someone is an illegal immigrant I don't see why you shouldn't punish employer's who knowing hire them.

The law is solid the only way they have a valid case to make is one concerning the difficulty/cost of a Mexican citizen getting a visa or citizenship.

Hiring illegal immigrants doesn't help anyone, providing an easier pass for them to become legal immigrants does. This way they'll do the same jobs, but for more money, labor protection and pay their share of taxes. It's a win win situation.

Is it really that hard to get immigration papers (or whatever they are called) in US?

Or is there something I'm missing... we have a crapload of immigrants here in Canada/Québec, but afaik they're all (well, most) legal

The reason food prices are as low as they are in the US is because of illegal immigrants who do the jobs that US citizens won't (at least not for the same wage). Not saying it's right, just pointing it out. :-)

And it is pretty hard to immigrate to the US if you're unskilled and don't have any connections to people here.

Its simply a case of the employer has a legal obligation to check that people are legally allowed to work before employing them. Its the same in the UK.

No, it's a case that Mexico thinks we should pay to make sure their citizens are happy taken care of... which makes no sense at all.

That's also the reason medical prices are as outrageous as they are. Not saying it's right, just pointing it out. :-)

Regulated by private bodies? How does that even make sense? Regulation comes from the government. Deregulation = putting things in the private sector.

Anyway, the point of my reply wasn't that our medical system (the best in the world) is turning into crap, it's that whatever small amount of money we save on food from allowing illegal immigration we more than pay for in *every* other aspect of our lives--emergency room prices being just an obvious example.

Eh? Regulation comes from any kind of authority, and it still doesn't set aside the fact that although large parts of the American healthcare system are regulated by the Government, hundreds of sectors are regulated by private bodies that are often competitive overseas, and the reason why this has happened is because the American healthcare system is completely private, therefore monopolised and overpriced. America is not near the best healthcare system in the world, however is by far the most over priced - although your point is correct.

the chinese people generally approve of their family planning laws. besides, the law doesn't apply to the majority of the country which consists of farmers, that's why the population of china continues to grow.

a one-party government does not mean you lose free will, as much as your upbringing would have you believe that democracy is the best and everything else is terrible in all ways
