PoLiX Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 http://metalgearctf.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=11876 Yes, plain and simple the zone is being shut down... freakmonger made the decision earlier last week. MG's population has unfortunately been declining for the past few years and these last 6 months it dropped drastically. I am not happy about this situation and none of you are probably either, but I think it's best we put MG in our past... It is as far as I'm concerned too late to restore it back to the way it used to be. I think it's best we just remember the good memories we had from it. As for the forum, we are keeping it. Well I made it short and sweet now you can take from this what you want, and flame me all you want, but really it's just a dying game and I have no control over people deciding to play or not. Till' next time, Knlght With all but 1 of the rest of the SSCC zones being pretty much dead, only can wonder if poor freak will keep paying the bill to keep them alive.
»jabjabjab Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 (edited) Sigh why take it off? I forget if it's on the default zone list for newcomers. They were a great zone that I respected throughout the years. Put it in Algol or something Edited August 30, 2009 by jabjabjab
»doc flabby Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 (edited) i don't understand how its died so suddenly...i remember playing it this year ometime and it being pretty active...what happened :/ I agree with Jab, i'm sure someone else would be happy to pick up the hosting of the zone(s) if freak doesn't want to support it any longer... PoLiX Posted August 30, 2009 Author Report Posted August 30, 2009 Metal Gear has been dead for months. I tried to begin helping revive it back in March, but it was slowly coming back until again, someone on staff failed the players. It is mostly just proof that stagnation kills this game, and stagnation destroyed MG in only a few months time. A lot of upper staff was inactive, things we're never changed/updated, they didn't listen to the players, etc. Most the players hated the packages how they we're. Liked the idea, but not the way they we're. This along with the fact MG wasn't hosting as much anymore (heard metalmod was down a lot), and the map was never really changed as the population dwindled a bit, just finished the zone off. I think we can all learn from MG that listening to players, always keeping new interesting things going, and being actively involved in the zone is a lot more important than some zone owners/sysops like to think.
Samapico Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Sometimes I wonder if all the energy to keep a declining zone alive is worth it, and if the efforts could instead be put into making something completely new... Nostalgia is a strong feeling indeed. 17th has been in a similar situation for years now.
I\/Ir Beefie Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Glad to see this zone dead, it got what it deserved.
Audry Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Beef, you're a moron... because you had problems with the owner/uppers dont give you the right to say that. The zone was still amazing and the community one of the best i ever seen. Now stfu, be respectful and go to your corner.
Bak Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 since it's dead do they mind releasing the zone files for other people to use?
I\/Ir Beefie Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Audry, Metal Gear was an amazing zone, I didnt say that. I use to play it quite often a couple years ago.. Due to the lack of care of the owners/uppers the past couple of years, Im glad to see it go. I'd say this zone closing is a sign of something more to come in the near future.
»Lynx Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Sigh why take it off? I forget if it's on the default zone list for newcomers. They were a great zone that I respected throughout the years. Put it in Algol or something I'm shutting down Algol etc, unless somebody needs an SSC slot with ASSS hosting** **: You can't be a moron. I'm willing to host zones, dead or not, but I'm not willing to make your map, settings, graphics, lvz files and code for you. I think Snrrrub is pretty much on the same ship, too.
»LtNirvana Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 I never liked MG, the settings just bugged me. Anyway oh well, woulda thought DS would die before MG but SS is weird these days. Died the same way RS did looks like. Whatever just less infantry competition now.
rootbear75 Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Glad to see this zone dead, it got what it deserved. qfe
»freakmonger Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 http://metalgearctf.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=11876 freakmonger made the decision earlier last week. Knight I did? I remember asking if staff wanted to give it another try to revive it, but don't remember publicly and/or offically shutting the zone down...Plus only Testtube can shut it down because he's the "zone owner".... And before I get spammed with tons of messages, no the files will not be released or given out unless Testtube gives them out (as stated above he is the Owner)
Emit Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Lol...polix you and I both know TT won't do that On a funny note: Yay finally died, I told you so etc etc
Samapico Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Someone, keep the maps and lvz's in your zone folder and archive them somewhere... in a few years someone will want to revive it, just like all the old zones
»Lynx Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Well the material is 'copyright' to their respectful owners, now... Let's think of the parts of Metal Gear Testtube made... I'm sure it would just be a little silly to not make everything public domain, if the zone closes that is. -L

If anyone would like to take the time and notice who actually posted that, it wasn't kn|ght. Someone made a name just like his with a cap. I in the name. If you look close: 1. His post count is way off2. He is a member of "members" and not root admin (if you look up the members you'll see the two knights, one as a member and one as a root admin) 3. his signature doesn't send you to the staff application link. I'm alittle disappointed in you Polix that you didn't notice this....
Dr Brain Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 The fact that everyone believed it says a lot about the status of the zone.

I wondered why he deleted his account and re-registered it, but figured it was just him. Members gave me 500 error, and ACP.
