»Lynx Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 So yeah, as I'm going to University I came close to buying a car but after seeing the campus and realising everything is pretty much within 500 or so meters, I decided to get a bike. I'm living in halls, and I'm on the 6th floor so a 24" or 26" bike seemed pretty awkward, so I decided to go BMX... I had an old (1980s) diamondback frame in my shed from when I was a kid that my brother gave to me from when he was a kid, so I figured I'd spend a while cleaning it up and making it look a bit funky retro... Here's the results... Prime Coathttp://dl.krslynx.com/Temp/bicycleet/IMG_0070.JPG Base Coathttp://dl.krslynx.com/Temp/bicycleet/IMG_0071.JPG Lackered Finishhttp://dl.krslynx.com/Temp/bicycleet/IMG_0072.JPG The Partshttp://dl.krslynx.com/Temp/bicycleet/Photo%2030.jpg Then assembly.. As it's an old bike, I tried to grab the sizes of the seat tube/clamp etc from the intertubes, however I got the wrong year and bought a 22.5mm tube with according clamp... This frame has a slightly larger tube size (I believe 25.4mm) so as you can tell, there's no seat on there... But this is the finished product and it's pretty fun to ride... I'd not been on two wheels in years, so I was wobbly as hell as first but I'm getting the hang of it again.. http://dl.krslynx.com/Temp/bicycleet/IMG_0075.JPG http://dl.krslynx.com/Temp/bicycleet/IMG_0076.JPG http://dl.krslynx.com/Temp/bicycleet/IMG_0077.JPG Fun Stuffs, -L Quote
Dr Brain Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 Looks good. The hot pink wheel and handle bars are a bit much, though. That is, unless you're going for anti-theft. A big pink basket+bow on the front would complete it. Quote
»Purge Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 Very nice. Now your image is complete. Quote
Corey Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 i notice you have no seat sir. so is that how you roll? Quote
Samapico Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 With all that pink, it's safe to assume he enjoys riding directly on the bar Quote
»Lynx Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 Haha, wow my friend said that earlier! Quote
whalz Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 you coulda gone for a nice dark teal front tire, and a mello yello back tire Quote
»Lynx Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 I like the green and pink p.s. it rides really damn well Quote
Lisa Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 Looks good. The hot pink wheel and handle bars are a bit much, though. That is, unless you're going for anti-theft. A big pink basket+bow on the front would complete it. You forgot to mention the 'ding ding' bell. And the sparkly ribbons that come out the sides of the handles. Quote
Testtube Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 You deserve whatever you get for riding in public with that thing. Quote
Hakaku Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 The only thing that doesn't match is the pedals Quote
No_Remorse Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Throw some playing cards in the spokes and you're set. Quote
Samapico Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Throw some playing cards in the spokes and you're set.Oh man... Those were the days... Quote
rootbear75 Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 sad part is i think i get the pink/bars joke, but im not sure if im right. Quote
Drake7707 Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 you'd get a ticket if you were to ride such a bike on public streets here: bell, lights, reflectors (also the ones in wheels) are all required here Quote
»Lynx Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 Wow really? That's ridiculous. Do all BMXers there have to have bells lights and reflectors then? Sux -L Quote
Dav Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 haha nice work, bet that is gonna be a shitload of fun to ride about on. Are those ODI ruffian grips there? never new they made em in pink oh and I like the use of a pole as a workstand BTW. Quote
Drake7707 Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Wow really? That's ridiculous. Do all BMXers there have to have bells lights and reflectors then? Sux -L I don't know for sure, but i think so, then again, i've never seen any BMX on the streets anywhere, and i passed a lot of bicycles at the train station on my way to school. I should look that up *-) Quote
»Lynx Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 Yeah man, I built it all up by buying parts from e-bay winning last minute bids etc - in all I spent 150 on brand new parts, the only thing that isn't new is the Diamondback frame so I am pretty happy with it rides brilliantly however I'm thinking of buying a second one when I get to uni as I am liking the look of flatland stuff... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2LTVhqHAdo Quote
Dav Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 this isn't BMX but its still damn awesome. Wish I could ride like this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z19zFlPah-o takes about a minute to actually get going but its damn good. I just cant believe the backflip off the tree or the massive jump to flat off the bridge in there! Quote
