Samapico Posted August 19, 2009 Author Report Posted August 19, 2009 I find chips to be relatively expansive, actually. Quote

Dr Brain Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 I've got 4x 2GB (800MHz) ram. There's nothing like it. It really wasn't that expensive. Have to run a 64-bit operating system to take advantage of it, but that's why God invented Linux. Quote

I'm sitting here on a 5-year-old laptop w/640MB ram and an "Intel Pentium 4-M" Processor. I really need a new one because I just bought Team Fortress 2 only to discover I can't run it Plus it would help my 3D-modeling/not making my computer's fans so loud when I am playing continuum on your zone So that's like 16GB of ram? oid Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 a common system has an i7 and 295? D: guess thats common for the people that run 3dmark Quote
Samapico Posted August 20, 2009 Author Report Posted August 20, 2009 a common system has an i7 and 295? D: guess thats common for the people that run 3dmarkYeah, had the same thought... I'd guess it's just because they are sponsored and have to sell these things. I still expect my score to fail badly compared to it when I get my new card :S On a side note, I'm downloading Windows 7 (yes, legally; gotta love MSDN AA)I might give it a try if I feel like reformatting... »Blocks Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 (edited) You can get Windows 7 and other Microsoft software free if you have an MSDNAA subscription that includes it. Many colleges and universities offer MSDNAA accounts to their students. Additionally, if you're an IEEE student member, you have an MSDNAA account through them. Edit: Also, Sama, what are you doing upgrading a computer as old as that? New computers are cheap to buy or build! Edited August 21, 2009 by Blocks Quote
Samapico Posted August 21, 2009 Author Report Posted August 21, 2009 Look, spending 100$ on this machine is MUCH LESS expansive than building a new one... and it's not like I could not put these pieces in an eventual new build... "As old as that", it's less than 3 years old... it's not that old ô.o BTW I know what 4*4 is. Then you suck at reading? 4x 2GB (800MHz) ram Quote
Gannon8 Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 It was supposed to sound like: "So thats 16GB of ram? Wow thats a lot!" Quote

Emit Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Can build something under $300 and still do better than that $506 machine Quote
oid Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Can build something under $300 and still do better than that $506 machinei doubt it, i can see you paying a bit over 400 for similar parts if you downgrade to ddr2 and find some nice combo deals, but otherwise theres no way buying new. Quote
