Acer Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 I remember the first time I download continuum I use to connect to zone immediately but now it takes about 20 seconds for me to enter a zone. What could be causing this? I don't really have anything runny but Xfire, avast (virus scanner) and maybe teamspeak/ventrilo.. Nothing that will really slow down my computer. Has this happened to anyone else? And is there a way to fix it if it's just continuum?
»gallitin Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 So this same issue happens on my work computer, but not on my home computer. I'm not really sure why, it's not a performance issue on my side as my work computer is the faster of the two with dual quad core processors.
»Lynx Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Try to not run Vent, see if that makes any difference. The connection time, as far as I know, will be determined by what connection you're on. -L
Acer Posted August 19, 2009 Author Report Posted August 19, 2009 I have maybe there for a reason. I haven't really used vent or teamspeak very much this month, it really hasn't changed anything..
rootbear75 Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 Firewalls... routing table updates... spyware/adware/bloated OS... who knows... could be many things... hell... ss doesn't even work on my laptop... too lazy to troubleshoot it.
Static Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 It might be the zone you're connecting to. It takes 5-10 seconds for me to connect to Hyperspace, but only 2-4 seconds to connect to Extreme Games.
Acer Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 Nah it does it for every zone. (DS, EG, TW, HS, and all the rest)
Acer Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 Yes, it does it for all zones. Even when I host a zone from another computer it still takes a while to enter.
»jabjabjab Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Script delays + vista. Sucks, but w/e. Unless PriitK still cares about us, continuum will be this way until bak gets Discretion going.
Hakaku Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 It's like no one listens around here...This isn't a Vista-related issue, it's a Continuum one that has to do with the way it loads itself (The SubSpace, PSpace, Discretion clients can connect to zones without an issue). This problem has existed since Windows 98SE for some users, has persisted on Windows XP, Vista, and 7. Most Windows XP users won't have this issue, while on Vista it's much more noticeable. Aero, compatibility mode, firewalls, Windows DEP, UAC, directX, etc, could all be contributing factors to its slowness, but alas even if disabled you should notice very little to [absolutely] no improvement whatsoever. Several people have complained about it before, but there's no solution.Summary: Continuum is poorly designed.
