Audry Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 You mean a zone or a server? i'm confuse...
Cren Posted August 11, 2009 Author Report Posted August 11, 2009 Lmfao forgot ssc ran on zones zone not server. sorry for the confusion il edit it
»Purge Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 For a server, you can go with either ASSS or Subgame2. I'd go with ASSS since zone development, including Hyperspace, is using it. Once you get your zone roughly completed, you can contact a zone host. Some can host development zones as well as completed zones.

»Purge Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 Not sure where the ASSS site went, but it contained a useful user guide for getting started. Check the wiki that I linked for more help. And if you were having trouble with subgame before, the link I posted has LC's pre-setup package which contains most of what you need to start up the server right away. Not sure if you were using that before, though.
Cren Posted August 11, 2009 Author Report Posted August 11, 2009 (edited) is ASSS easier to use or harder?either or does it have more customization?i still cant find an ASSS download or anything even on that wiki page link :/ Edited August 11, 2009 by Cren
»Purge Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 The download is on the right side of the page. It'll take getting used to, it's not actually "hard" to use. Definitely more customizable than subgame, yes.
Cren Posted August 11, 2009 Author Report Posted August 11, 2009 (edited) lmao i feel blind thanks again purge....and just after i downloaded ur subgame 2 file it works but i could use a tutnow to figure out how Asss works <.<Edit: until continuum ive never felt it to b so ez to start a server >probobly cause most games ive found (eg:teamFortress 2,Counter strike Source,Garrysmod)u need a hoster for but all the servers/hosters i find u need to pay like 10$ a month.... id rather not pay for the server if i make a continuum server tho i hope some ppl try it il update as much as i can Edited August 11, 2009 by Cren
Cren Posted August 11, 2009 Author Report Posted August 11, 2009 Wait is there Any tutorials? im confused already lmao
rootbear75 Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 (edited) K here is a quick lesson on subgame vs AS3: Subgame2:Pros:- Easier to get set up and started- Bot plugins for subgame are plentifulCons:- Limited customization AS3:Pros:- Endless possibilities (almost)- Seriously, the number of things you can do with AS3 are endless.. look at hyperspace.Cons:- Need somewhat advanced programming knowledge to create most modules.- Harder to get set up and running than subgame. Of course: this list is from my experience... people might have different views on AS3.I prefer subgame2 over AS3 mostly because most of my Subspace knowledge rests in Subgame2. EDIT: I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but when posting something like a server help topic, it's usually better to use SpellCheck and re-read your post before you post it. Grammar and spelling make posts that much easier to read. (Also, PLEASE NO 1337speak) I'm also willing to help, however i am only online Late Nights (after Midnight, Saturday-Wednesday.. Off Thursdays and Fridays) Edited August 11, 2009 by rootbear75

Off Thursdays and Fridays)KK well i cant stop the 1337 speak its more an every day thing for me if i started typing with full grammar id in the end start 1337 speaking without realising it id rather use ASSS for the zone but so far i havent even done the simple thing of even getting it up and with the proper name....its on the list now as Development zone and its red and i cannot connect if i had a tut on how to get it up n add a currency and exp...maybe even levels and add to the ?buy menu(eg:Guns,Bombs,Hulls,Reactors, emitters, addons and whatever else i can think of...[im trying to make it similar but not a replica of Hyperspace, therefore i dont mind it being unpopulated.i plan on adding a bot anyways] id be So happy
rootbear75 Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 well if you want a bot, you are going for subgame... and there are already bunches of ?buy bots created for subgame... not quite sure where they are hosted... someone else may have a cache of them.
Samapico Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 You mean a zone or a server? i'm confuse...It's the same thing
»Lynx Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 ASSS isn't hard, you just need to get yourself thinking nix. Once you've got an idea of how to run/use Linux, you'll be competent with ASSS - then it's all about taking risks with your zones configuration files, source code, anything - so then you understand what everything is doing, and furthermore understand what will crash the zone and what won't. Either way, you'll have SSH to the zone, so if you crash you just reboot, and if you get stuck, i'm just an E-Mail away from getting you back on your feet. Don't quit on something because your outside of your comfort zone, once you do that, you're a newb. =) Good luck, Lynx ps. Google is your friend.
Cren Posted August 11, 2009 Author Report Posted August 11, 2009 (edited) ive heard of linux.....but i have no idea what the heck it is lol.bad luck for me -.-if only this game were more populated with like 1000 players at least then thered probobly be an Easy ASSS tutorial that i could find....but as far as i can tell only like 100 ppl play...(like 16-55 players in SSCE hyperspace at a time same with Desert storm and the football zone)eh. im gonna go play in Hyperspace...il figure this out later -.-Edit:http://www.minegoboom.com/server/download/userguide.txtis it just me or isnt Bomb-Gun lvl max of 4 or 5? or am i mistaken...pretty sure hyperspace has lvl 4 bombs :/ Anyways i figure out how to do a few things so far wit dat Page Edit2:Also ive decided this server/zones going to take a large difference from mostAll ships cant recover any energy now,HOWEVER each ship has a gigantic max energy limitThe Highest being the levi at around 75k tell me what you think about that. Also is there a way i can give each ship a secondary energy source or soemthing? like a shield that can have max 10k and recover? if so il probobly reduce the Energy Dramatically i still have yet to find out how to add to the ?buy menu though so i got some ways to go. server/zone still isnt even running yet. thanks for all the help you guys have given me Edited August 12, 2009 by Cren
Dr Brain Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 I'm thinking you don't have many zones on your list, because Trench Wars alone has 160 people in it as I type this (at off hours).

wakamura Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Do you have a router or something like that?I remember a long time ago when I tried hosting my own zone I couldnt get it up because I had a router and had to port forward. Also my internet connection everytime I reset my router I would get a new IP, so it was kinda hard to host my own zone.
