I'm getting horrible FPS on my laptop. It's pretty old, it's about 3-5 years old. I get about 10-20 fps in fullscree \ window mode. I use the res 1024 x 768. I've tried lower resolutions but it's just way to hard to play on a little screen that small.

I'm running windows professional sp 1 ( I know I should update to sp2)

Processor: Intel Pentium 3 1000MHZ

Memory: 494MB

I've tried the advanced options and turned on everything and then turned off everything and only put on a few options. Is there anything else I can do in the options to help me maybe get better fps?

I checked: Software Emulation (Good for built in GPUs), Avoid Page Flipping, No Framerate Limit, Show Default Resolutions (you probably don't need this one if they're listed), and Disable Clipping.

Software Emulation and Disable clipping make a big difference on fps on my laptop. 20fps in MG without em checked, 119 with em.

Well, I've added those, still no change. I've tried it just on Software Emulation and Disable clipping but that still doesn't help.

Edit: My video card is Trident Video Accelerator CyberBlade XP Ai1 v6.4022-016B.22ICDNP

I don't know if that info would help at all. I've downloaded and installed the most recent drivers for it.

I have a problem where turning on software emulation doesn't help, use these ones:

Avoid Page Flipping

No Framerate Limit

Disable Clipping

I get less then 10 fps when I turn those on.

*bump*

I'm having FPS problems since I upgraded my nVidia 7300GT to a Radeon 4670... I get much better framerates in 3D games, but in Continuum I can't get more than 10 FPS if there are tiles on the screen. I can get 60 FPS in open space... Tried a bunch of different combinations of advanced options, still no luck. :)

Try using dxdiag.exe and test your DirectDraw capabilities. (post a log if possible)

Samp: seemingly identical problem (same upgrade you did) http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?message.uid=51234

I've had some good results, using customised drivers from http://www.omegadrivers.net/omega_drivers.php here before but its not for the faint hearted blum.gif Also have you compared FPS in windowed and Full Screen mode?

EDIT: just noticed how old that post was but this advice still applies to then OP

Update to SP3. SP1 is very slow compared to SP2 and SP3 and has alot of bugs that needs patching.

Also Load up process explorer and see if anything is running in the background that shouldn't be

I seem to have fixed it using all 4 options

-Software emulation

-Disable clipping

-No Framerate Limit

-Avoid page flipping

Thought I had tried that already... However, whenever my media player is about to change song, I get MASSIVE fps lag (i.e. I see about 1 frame per second for about 10 seconds). It always did that a bit, but now it's just extreme :)

Also to answer several suggestions/questions:

no difference between fullscreen or windowed.

Set vertical sync to application controlled.
Uh? Searched in Catalyst and didn't find anything for that

I have SP3

Also, I checked the process manager, and the only thing eating CPU was Continuum... and it was eating A LOT. Even the title screen sometimes eat 30-40% CPU (and I have a dual core, so it basically eats up an entire cpu). Right now it's like 10-15. Maybe it's the menu after playing, or something... I don't even have an animated skin.
