Ok, as promised after weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell over a year or so, a new release to Thirdspace.

There's info in the readme and the thirdspace.pdf if you're interested in what to do with this.

A few words of note:

May shut down prematurely due to a memory leak somewhere.

The "ass-kicking bug" has been fixed.

Hosting a zone is still only possible from the client, I'm still working on a solution that'll take care of the host having to be there.

Here's the link to Thirdspace.

I've noticed some probs wormhole extreme has with the black screen going orange and white when moving in certain places on the map like trench wars 3d was back in the prev beta.

The trench wars map is too small. Scale it bigger so the ships can actually go through the tunnels.. lol.

Also, the host button for thirdspace also needs fixing STILL lol blum.gif i have to hit tab twice & hit enter still.

IMO the menus should look more like http://subspace.legendzones.com/history/vie/ if you want it to be very identical to the SubSpace feel.

The link to the website (or w/e the link is to) is broken or down. blum.gif

If you want people to have a good experience with map making, think about making a map editor with preset blocks for diagonals, cuts, etc. and abilities to put textures on them too. So like make a map editor with a x,y view, x,z view, and a y,z view. We could make the map editor just as good as DCME and have such an easy feel with it aswell.

Overall I see slight improvement. Most of the previous bugs were fixed, but some new one's popped up as always when making beta's so here they are. Tested everything.

There is also collision issues here:

I like the old VIE styled interface better. The HUD should be like that too in my opinion, and just as easily customizable like in Continuum too, if possible. But those are my thoughts. I need to test this some more at home on my desktop machine rather than on my lappy.

Ships look cool.

I kind of like the Subspace v1.34 interface better too, in the sense that it's just a window in Windows rather than a full blown client until you actually choose and connect to a zone to play in (you know that square fade in effect?).

Thirdspace looks cool. :D

I kindof feel that your trying to add so much different stuff in thirdspace.. try to allow thirdspace to be more like subspace, blum.gif .

Heres my list of things for Server options / Arena cfg:

Hiden Prizes: Does not show the image/model of what the prize is. Shows just green box.

All stuff from VIE, such as safe time, ship settings, bounce factor, etc.

Uhh Wall Damage switch (0 being off and 1 being on).

Barrier size: allow this for bigger maps, like trench wars.

By the way, how do you switch views on the ship? I'd like to see my ship while flying

For game options:

Alow brightness, Res, and all the fine luxuries continuum has.

Just make sure the client has these, and your good on my terms :D

Hiden Prizes: Does not show the image/model of what the prize is. Shows just green box.On hidden prizes, while that would decrease the amount of models that would have to be loaded, it makes the hunt for special items that much more harrowing. For instance, if you have two guys who need the same thing, there's gonna be a dogfight over that one green.

All stuff from VIE, such as safe time, ship settings, bounce factor, etc.

Ship settings and bounce exist, still working on safe zone abilities.

Uhh Wall Damage switch (0 being off and 1 being on).

Whiner... Just dodge solid objects and you'll be fine. Newtonian physics (or something like them) apple falls off the tree, goes splat when it hits the ground 500 feet below. Same idea.

Barrier size: allow this for bigger maps, like trench wars.

You're right, 1000x1000x1000 isn't enough for an arena of forty players, especialy when there's a central fight hub like the TW castle. That'll be adjustable in the next release outside the binary.

By the way, how do you switch views on the ship? I'd like to see my ship while flying

For game options:

hit V while playing to switch views

Alow brightness, Res, and all the fine luxuries continuum has.

It does, just go into the TSconfig.xml and all the primary client-side settings are there (music, gfx, resolution, ect)

Well with wall damage, youve got to think on the tunnels and to get through them, i mean TW 3d for intstance, like I said it was small, but it also was hard to not get hurt just stabalizing myself to get through them at all without dieing.

Would be nice to be able to adjust damage on each walls... but i guess it would be complicated. Just adding 'damage areas' or something could do the trick... I'm thinking about like... a magnetic EMP field that slowly damages your ship while you're in it, or hot gas area

That'd be impossible since the TW map and station and asteroids are all one solid model. It'd be more easier to modify the shield strength and recharge rate in the ship.txt files for each ship.

(To gannon8)Or POOP! yeah... heh heh... poop...

When do you predict the next release? (just wondering) Oh and how hard would it be to make a program with coordinating pre-determined blocks with corners n such and being able to apply textures n such, so it could act like a advanced tile map editor for thirdspace? That would be amazing to feat. It would allow so much more ease and ability and use to the game.

I have no idea when. It took well over a year for this one to come out. Maybe by Easter(2012) ;P

As for a mapper, the Milkshape SDK already exists for developers to make whatever they want using the chumbalumbsoft renderer, so it's not a stretch to make something like DCME but with layers. Although, I don't see why someone would want to do such a thing, when a 3D map in this type of environment would be ridiculus with a bunch of blocks set up on a 2D plane.

Posted (edited)

Well If you think about it, not everyone knows how to make 3D stuff. Hell it took me awhile with milkshape, and when my friend taught me blender a month ago, i came back to milkshape and it was much easier.

Thing is people are stupid, and alot dont even understand things like dcme, and ssme.. but if you want alot of development from alot of people, maybe this noob tool would be a nice thing to have as a starter. people can move from it and try regular 3d programming, but this would be nice training wheels for the noobs who want to do stuff but don't know how to yet.

*Hint: I might still need it blum.gif*
