Hi everybody! ;)

About 12 days ago now, I started getting major packetloss in Extreme Games. When I do a trace, I get the below stats, which after every cycle raise more and more until about after 50 cycles I am at 98% pl and still rising.

I've already:

1) contacted my ISP (at&t, I have a 6mbps connection) who sent out a "tech" who said he "thought" I needed a new modem. I've replaced the modem, and am still having the same issues.

2) via dslreports.com, I've tested my hops and found that I do get huge packet loss from my fourth hop, which seems to affect subsequent servers downline.

3) tried pinging extreme games IP for packetloss directly (not connecting via the SS client), but had ZERO packetloss!

I read somewhere that some games have a hard time synching packets with various servers or something like that? I really am not all that technical :D I live in Fresno, CA.

I'm hoping someone can help me, or point me in the right direction. This is driving me nuts! I need my daily EG fix! ;)

first off... that says 12 cycles... not 50... let it run for 100-150 cycles then post it again

EDIT:... i also didn't know AT&T provided internet services....

I'm ashamed of you helpers, obviously when it drops all packets but one that means it's blocking trace requests at/to those hosts.

Neither of those traces is helpful, they don't show anything unusual. What exactly is happening when you try to play EG?

Posted

Yeah, the last hop shows 0 loss and a stable 90ms...

What shows up when you do ?lag in the zone (after a couple of minutes ingame) ?

Posted (edited)

In-game, I can play for about 2 min, then the lag gets to the point where the server spec's me for latency or packetloss (in pub). In baseduel, where the packetloss is set higher, every 3-4 minutes I get a HUGE spike, and can basically fly through the base for about 5-6 seconds and everyone dissappears (ppl tell me I look like I'm DC'ing) then SOMETIMES, I reappear and keep playing, but most of the time I just disconnect from the server and the problem starts over.

When I do ?lag in the zone after a couple minutes, everything (sc2, c2s, wpl, pl etc - all of them) range from like 2.5 - 20%.

I currently can't connect at home due to cancelling service with at&t (they partner with sbc dsl) or I would have copied & pasted the stats here from ?lag or !lag mitey results. I'm changing to Comcast cable @ 12mbps. Hopefully this solves the issue, but I'm still really curious why I was having these issues with at&t.

I had the same huge packet loss spikes for a while... it's just the internet tubes clogging up blum.gif

It will most likely change with a new ISP

Yeah, I hope my lag issues do change with Comcast! Either way, with Comcast, I'm paying 19.99mo with no contracts or early termination fees for one year (12mb connection too!), and with at&t I was paying for a phone line, which I didn't use, and 6mbps - all for $55.00mo.

Definitely a no-brainer, and even if the lag is still there, I come out ahead! ;)

Sometimes good things come out of what first seems to be bad! :(

I'll let ya'll know what happens once I'm up and running with Comcast (this Sunday, woot!).

sometimes, random spikes that weren't there, appear after the routing tables shift.

The routing tables update every so often, to find the quickest route from point A to point B.

Sometimes, for weeks at a time, its one way, then it shifts to another route.

It might have just so happened, that you got a bad route when they shifted.

lol it's like routers are a living breathing species migrating and moving.. it's quite creepy really.... Like a web around the planet, going to kill us all xD

Switching to comcast and/or once I got comcast, I hooked up an ethernet cable directly to the router, instead of connecting wirelessly (I think it's my desktop which is somehow causing problems with the wireless because once I connected on my laptop wirelessly to my router once I had comcast, it worked fine, but when I tried connecting wirelessly on my desktop, I got the same packetloss or close to it) I had no lag issues whatsoever.

Thank you all for your input!

Have fun gaming!!!
